Dr. Asa Marokus, MD

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
2150 W 29th Ave Ste 110, Denver, CO
I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who are dealing with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and challenges related to school, work, relationships, and life transitions. My goal is to understand each person as a whole, rather than simply focusing on a list of symptoms. I take time to understand what has been going on, what may be contributing to the difficulties, and what kind of treatment is most likely to be helpful. Depending on a patient's needs, treatment may include medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of both. I completed fellowship training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and have additional training in psychotherapy. I value thoughtful assessment, open communication, and a collaborative approach to treatment. When working with children and adolescents, I also involve parents and families when appropriate. I want patients to feel comfortable asking questions and to understand the reasoning behind their treatment. My approach emphasizes individualized care, careful treatment planning, and an ongoing understanding of each patient's needs and goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I try to create a setting where patients feel comfortable talking openly and asking questions. My style is thoughtful, collaborative, and straightforward. I take time to understand not only symptoms, but also the broader context of a person's life, relationships, school or work, and the patterns that may be contributing to difficulties. Treatment is individualized and may include medication, psychotherapy, or both. I believe patients should understand the reasoning behind treatment recommendations and have an active role in decisions about their care. When working with children and adolescents, I also involve parents and families when appropriate while respecting the young person's growing independence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initial visits focus on developing a thorough understanding of your concerns, history, current circumstances, and treatment goals. I ask questions about symptoms, previous treatment, medical and family history, relationships, school or work, and other factors that may be relevant. Adult evaluations often take place over two appointments so there is enough time for a thoughtful assessment without rushing. When working with children and adolescents, I usually meet with both the young person and their parent or parents, sometimes separately and sometimes together. Depending on the situation, the evaluation may involve one or more additional appointments to gather a fuller picture. Once the assessment is complete, we discuss my impressions and treatment options together. Ongoing visits are tailored to the patient's needs and may focus on medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination of both. I also use follow-up appointments to review progress, address new concerns, and adjust the treatment plan when appropriate.
