About Dr. Avery Buchholz

Dr Avery Buchholz is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in spine surgery. Dr Buchholz attended The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina for undergraduate and returned to his home state of Wisconsin for medical school at The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He then did a residency in Neurological Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina followed by complex spine fellowship at the University of Virginia. While at UVA he also served as a fellow for the North America Spine Society. Dr Buchholz then served as an associate professor at the University of Virginia where he practiced for the majority of his career treating complex spine disorders, working with residents and fellows, and teaching at spine conferences across the country and internationally. During all this time Dr Buchholz served as an officer in the National Guard retiring after 12 years of service. He still maintains a very active lifestyle and understands the wants and needs of his patients to return to activities and to be as pain free as possible. Dr Buchholz specializes in all spine conditions with a focus on minimally invasive procedures to return a patient to the quality of life they desire. Conditions treated: -Disc disorders -Sciatica -Degenerative spine conditions -Complex spine disorders -Scoliosis -Spine trauma -Cervical , Thoracic, Lumbar, Sacrum
