Verified Patient Reviews
I've been his patient for several years (and his colleague, Dr. Noor) and he is simply fantastic. Everything about him!
Both, Dr. Rao and Dr. Noor have impeccable bedside manner, are very knowledgeable and reassuring, which is why I will keep coming back. The office staff is polite and efficient. An overall very pleasant experience.
Patient and answered all my questions rather than rushing me out.
Arrived early and did not have to redo paperwork I had all ready submitted via the app, which was a plus. Fast friendly service.
Quick and easy. I needed some cortisone injections - I was in and out. Perfect for what I needed.
Dr. Rao is a great professional with a happy, light and warm personality. I have been his patient since my melanoma in 2007 and from NJ i go to NYC because i trust his lnowledge and experience in the field.
Every 10 minute appointment intervals?? what....maybe.... hmm.... No...
Short and sweet
The best derm I've ever seen. Patient, caring and realistic about treatment. Very good listener.
This is sort of a weird review....5 stars to the admin up front. She was super sweet and nice...and she seemed to know what she was doing. This is shockingly rare in NYC. Anyways- Dr. Rao. I had a late day appointment, so i think i will chalk up my experience to that. He was rushed- very RUSHED. He clearly wanted to go home. I went in for a very minor issue and he prescribed me everything I asked for- no questions. So, if yo uwant a doctor who spends minimal time examining you, but gives you whatever you want...he's your man. If you want someone to really look at you, schedule the appointment for the AM and maybe be more assertive. Again, he was nice and clearly knows what he's doing, but I think i couldve said I wanted benzos and he would have been like "ok'. Instead I just got Retin A for anti-ageing!! oh- side note....the office DID help me get that script approved by insurance when they had to call after intially putting a hold on it, so that's pretty awesome. I use it for pure cosmetic issues, so it was nice to get that approved/covered. Will make another appointment for a follow- up and see what his real deal is.
Extremely short visit with the doctor.
First office visit, everything went great. Going back next week for a treatment with Dr.Khan.
Friendly, punctual, nice office, good location, seems very knowledgable, staff was very professional.
Best dermatologyist I have yet to see in NYC.
I went into this doctor to be treated for my acne and I left the office crying. How does that even happen? I went in with no makeup on (obviously) and my skin isn't the best right now but it is certainly not worth the nurses audible gasps. Overall the staff was unsympathetic and insensitive. The thing that pushed me to tears was hearing the doctor make fun of the treatment my previous doctor prescribed to me through the door of the room that I was in. He accused me of making it up?? I'm sorry... who does that? If I ignore the bizarre lows of the appt... I did leave the doctor with a couple of good prescriptions and a coupon to fill one my insurance wouldn't cover. However, I will NOT be returning for a follow up. Back to the search for a good derm in NYC!
I would highly recommend Rao Dermatology to anyone seeking a dermatologist. The office staff were all so pleasant and professional! Dr. Rao is extremely personable and was patient in regards to my acne concerns. The visit was quick yet thorough, which I appreciated. Tip: Once you book your appointment on Zocdoc, fill out any paperwork you can on here to avoid additional time spent in office before your appointment. As a new patient only having to pay my copay then quickly seeing Dr. Rao shortly after was perfect.
The appointment was straight forward and very helpful. Everyone in the office was very professional, helpful, and kind. Everything was clear and I never felt like I didn't know what to do next. I would happily recommend Dr. Rao.
Fantastic visit. Really appreciated Dr. Rao's practical approach.
It was my first time seeing a dermatologist. Dr. Rao and his staff were pleasant and personable. The appointment itself was about 9 min. I expected, and would have liked to spend more time. I felt a little rushed. Is that the direction health care is going in these days?
It was a very fast visit. A little unconventional, meaning every doctor I've ever been to had my medical history in front of them asking me questions, I wasn't asked what medications I taking, etc. Didn't happen here. Not bad, just different.
Great service, felt a tad rushed BUT felt 100% confident he was able to solve my problem.
Nice experience with zocdoc. And doctor. He tacking care immediately. Thank you zocdoc
While the wait was a little longer than I'd usually like, the office staff were very friendly and the doctor was great! My appointment was quite short but didn't feel rushed at all. Dr Rao addressed my concerns quickly and thoroughly, and answered all my questions. I am always so happy to find a doctor with a good bedside manner.
He did not really address my concerns, You never want to leave a doctors office with a new scar on your face. I will never recommend him for any facial skin concerns.
If you need a dermatologist just go here. Don't think twice. Courteous knowledge and very professional
This doctor did prescribe me a wash that cured my acne. However, when I requested a refill he insisted that I come back in although the medication worked fine and I wasn't looking for anything new. This is face wash here, not heart medication (ended up ordering something with similar ingredients online until I saw my regular doctor). After I told him that I refused to come back in and pay a co-pay for the same medication his reception was quite rude to me. And I suddenly received a bill in the mail today for an office visit that my insurance has already paid for back in September. I do NOT recommend,.
All the other great reviews are correct. A very professional person with a well run office.
Dr Rao was very professional! Would definitely recommend to others. Clean office, friendly staff!
Highly experienced and able to diagnose very quickly and recommended right treatment
I booked a last minute appointment, and it was absolutely seamless. Both Dr. Rao and the assistant were kind and helpful. Highly recommended!
he was quick, to the point and very pleasant!
Dr Rao is the only dermatologist i trust after my melanoma diagnosis 9 years ago. He is one of the best most experienced in his field and alway on the latest research and technology.
Never had to wait, Dr Rao and entire staff are highly knowledgeable.
Warm, professional demeanor and efficient!
I really enjoyed this experience. The receptionist was very lovely and pleasant, as was the nurse or physician's assistant. The doctor appraised me quickly and listened to my issues with past dermatological treatments. He gave a me a prescription that addressed my concerns. The office was extremely clean. I will be recommendin Dr. Rao to friends!
My wait time was less than five minutes and the office was clean, with polite support staff. Dr. Rao was nice and definitely knows his stuff, but I have to agree with the other reviewers who mentioned that the appointment seemed rushed. Normally this would be great, but I went for a pretty severe skin issue and I could have used a little more support and time for questions.
Booked a visit because I was concerned about several moles on my body. He spent 20 seconds examining said I was fine and was ready to walk out of the door. For the co-pay I paid, I just felt like it was such a low level service. I'm happy and confident that he is right (he seems very smart) but I would really prefer a doctor that is open to spending 5 minutes to be more thorough and help educate me. I do not plan on returning back to this office.
Really caring & knows what he's doing.
My appointment was at 1:30, I got there early and was seen right away. The staff there are very pleasant and helpful.
Overall, the experience was ok. I made the appt through zocdoc which was super easy and I found the place fairly easily as well. The woman behind the front desk was super nice, as was the Medical Assistant. Dr. Rao was also great, but I felt a little rushed. I was there to have my acne addressed, and while I understand there's only one of a few paths to take in treating it, I was looking for someone to take more than 5-10 minutes with me. I opted not to go for ingested pills (antibiotics, Accutane, etc.) but by the time I had left I wish I had been able to ask more questions. While I do appreciate not having a long wait time and generally prefer when a doctor cuts to the chase, but I hadn't been to a dermatologist in my adult life and I am already not proud of my skin, so I was looking for someone to be a little more sympathetic and help in educating me instead of sort of rushing to the solution. One more thing that was somewhat positive despite being a little frustrating - For some reason, my insurance doesn't cover one of the prescriptions he had given me so the office called and let me know how I could treat it myself with something else. And they were proactive about it - so it was less embarrassing than going to Duane Reade and finding out it wasn't covered.
Firstly, I'd like to say that he was warm, welcoming, and the entire office was extremely efficient and professional. Not only was Dr. Rao kind and welcoming, but he was an extremely greta listener and was able to diagnose my skin issue within minutes after looking at my back and asking a few questions. I will definitely come back to this office for my next appointment/emergency.
Fast, nice staff.
Really wonderful experience with Dr. Rao. Highly recommended!
Felt very rushed and didn't think he really listened to my concerns.
Very friendly doctor and staff. The visit itself was lightening speed. He look at what I was concerned about and quickly told me I was fine.
Dr. Rao is a super dermatologist supported by an articulate, efficient staff in a spotless, modern office in one of the most beautiful medical buildings in the city!
Best doctor experience ever. The front desk woman extremely efficient (and beautiful), and got me situated right away. I was legitimately in and out of the office within 20 minutes, with a prescription waiting for me at my local pharmacy. If every doctor's office worked as efficiently as this one, America would be a much better place.
Good experience, nice and responsive staff. I'd recommend him!
38 minute wait, 6 minute visit. And when I was told my prescription would probably be ready in 10 minutes, I get to my pharmacy, it hasn't even been called in. I really hope this was an off day because Babar himself seemed lovely.
Spent all of 5 minutes with me, didn't give me a chance to ask follow up questions, and kept me waiting for 20 min, after which he came in holding a cup of coffee accompanied by 2 other people. After I left the room he saw me in, I saw him finishing his coffee with his friends. The script he gave me also ran out in 2 weeks when he told me to use it for 4. Bought a store brand equivalent and it healed up.
Very informative and extremely accommodating!
None of my concerns were answered that I discussed. I was told to make another apointment. I asked if my insurance covered the visit and the receptionist said yes. They charged my insurance and then sent me a bill for the rest. I went to another dermatologist and they treated me on the spot. I had no additional charges from the 2nd doctor.
Well spoken, kind, efficient. Dr. Rao was great and I recommend him as a dermatologist. His office staff members are very sweet as well!
He was brief with the examination and treatment recommendation but was willing to answer my questions. I went for a specific skin issue and not an all around physical so I think it was appropriate. Very clean office. Short to no wait time. Would recommend.
just found my new dermatologist!
Not very thorough when he examined me, the appointment itself was too rushed. A very slow process writing out my prescriptions.
Nice office. Very nice Dr.
I liked him. He was nice, professional, knowledgeable. His staff was friendly and professional. I will definitely be back. Already scheduled my next appointment.
Dr. Rao is excellent. His office is friendly and efficient. His medical assistant, Matilda, is also very nice and competent. Overall a great experience.
He didn't listen to what I was there for and tried to sell me on laser treatments that I told him I didn't want. Pretty disappointing.
Office was quiet, they took me right at scheduled time. He prescribed me a medication that is not covered by insurance, however, and was not happy with the recommendation to treat my condition.
Professional and knowledgeable.
The doctor came in had a quick look (less than 2 minutes) said he will be right back and never did. Sent the nurse to apply a cream and discuss the follow up appointment.
great expereince, good people!
Efficient and friendly!
Short, sweet and to the point!
I had a full agenda to go over with Dr. Rao. He was a good listener and speedy.
It was fine. He was a pretty straight forward dermatologist. Appointment was fast.
Satisfactory first experience.
He's a relatively new physician for me -- I changed to his office last year. The office is professionally run, the people who work for him are terrific, punctual, responsive and gracious. He himself is amazing and knowledgeable. I've told everyone I know to go to him!
Didn't spend time with me or really listen to me. He seemed like he couldn't wait until the appointment was over.
He forgot about a few issues. The nurse had to remind him that I was waiting--must have slipped his mind, but not good when I'm taking off from work in the middle of the day.
A great visit, on point and efficient, though also took the time to chat about my work and time in the city. He didn't examine my skin, but I just have adult acne and knew what I needed from him. Overall good visit.
Great doctor, short wait, clean office.
Very knowledgeable, pointed, and fantastic with his work. I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma at the age of 24. Dr. Rao was incredibly insightful, comforting, and professional. Would highly recommend.
He spent about 2minutes with me, considering i had a decent insurance but a high copay for specialists.. I had better visits with dermatologists when i had medicaid coverage. I was extremely disappoinyed considering he was recommended to me.
I have been a patient of Dr Rao for many years and believe he saved my life more than once! He and his staff are wonderful, they take the time to know you, understand your concerns, and provide essential information.
The office location is horribly inconvenient, but the building and office are nice. The staff was very friendly, including Dr. Rao. The doctor was only with me for about 3 minutes, but I felt like it was an appropriate amount of time for my visit. He answered a couple questions I had and offered solutions to them.
He was professional, efficient and friendly
This was an extremely stress-free visit. We were seen right away, the office ran smoothly and quietly. Dr Rao did not spend more time than necessary but was willing to spend as much time as we needed. Very good experience.
I have lots of moles. The doctor didn't give me much comfort that my moles were all safe. He did a solid job, but it could have been better.
great guy but schedule is waay too full. get to know the assistants because they will be doing all of the work.
It was pleasant and professional. No complaints!
Was taken back almost immediately, and staff was very friendly and accommodating. Dr Rao, while known for his extremely short patient interactions, was thorough and his bedside manner was excellent.
For me, the only downside for Dr Rao, is his location. Hard to believe there is somewhere in manhattan not near mass transit, but this is one of the few. Beyond that, the building and office are beautiful, staff from receptionist to dr is excellent. Very happy with my experience this far.
Dr. Rao was excellent and helped me out with a very embarrassing blemish very quickly. Explained exactly what was wrong, and what needed to be done and I was back to work within an hour. Great staff, didn't have to wait too long.
Dr. Rao is AMAZING! He has certifications beyond what one can obtain in dermatology in the US and it shows. His knowledge and expertise are outstanding.
Professional and knowledgable. Very problem and solution focused.
It was my first time there and everyone was so sweet. The wait time wasn't long so it was great. I have my next appointment in about a month. I would definitely recommend him.
Fantastic - friendly staff, zero wait time, kind and understanding doctor.
Dr. Rao was very nice and efficient. He has a good bedside manner and lets you get in and out of his office. He also has an attentive staff in the office and incorporates technology well to help speed along appointments.
Staff was awesome and very knowledgeable. Thanks Dr Rao and Cecilia!
dr.rao was very nice and knowledgable. the appointment felt rushed but that so far has been my experience with any dermatologist. he did not ask to do a skin check which seemed odd seeing it was my first time there.
Dr Rao was very friendly and professional. I sensed right away as he assessed me that he was highly skilled, and knew what he was looking for. His staff was courteous and quickly brought me back to the treatment room. I am very happy with my first experience here at Rao Dermatology.
Quick, courteous, convenient!
Dr Rao is very knowledgeable professional. His bedside manner is fine, if a little brisk. I feel that you really need to be prepared to engage with him quickly when you go in for an appt, which might not work for everyone. If you go in for something a little more on the cosmetic side, they will have you work with the women in the office who sell their line of cosmetic oriented skin care line. I did end up buying some of them.
He left all the preparation to his assistant. I saw the doctor for less than 3 mns. I had little time to discuss additional preocupations and I need to make an additional appointment for that.
Professional, straight forward and efficient.
it went great very helpful
I really liked Dr. Babar Rao. I was seen moments after I arrived and he made me comfortable through the whole appointment. He was very knowledgable and suggested a few remedies for my concerns. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a dermatologist!
Very in depth and detail oriented
I had a several minute conversation with his assistant. Then I had to wait while he attended to a "friend" who walked in while i was there. After waiting, he came in and completely rushed me and barely even gave me a 5 minutes to talk. I would not recommend this doctor.
He was very very nice and made me feel at ease. The appointment felt a little rushed though. I wish he had given me a little more time and asked me more questions.
Friendly and professional MD. All staff members were friendly and lovely!
Dr. Rao was patient, thorough and profession. I highly recommend him.
accurate diagnosis, friendly, recommended the best (and cost effective) way to get appropriate treatment
He gave me good acne medication, but was a tiny bit patronizing.
Wonderful office that runs like clockwork! The absolute model of efficiency and professionalism!
The office staff is extremely friendly, the doctor seemed knowledgeable and nice enough, and the doctor saw me on time. Unfortunately, the doctor spent maaaybe two minutes with me even though I had several things to go over, barely speaking to me or making eye contact. When I wanted to discuss one more thing, he said I had "too much" and would have to come back for another appointment, which is both inconvenient given his location and kind of ridiculous to have to pay twice. I discovered later that one of the prescriptions was outrageously expensive, and when I called the office to get an alternate Rx I was put on hold for over fifteen minutes and transferred twice before I got through to someone, just to have them tell me to wait to be called back. I'm sure Dr. Rao is great for people who know exactly what they have and want to be in and out. But if you have questions and want someone to explain things, this is not the person for you. And don't even try calling their office.
Quick and easy. He seemed very knowledgeable.
Very kind and nice doctor.
Great Doctor,Clean Office, Friendly staff
Very efficient, professional and discrete.
Great doctor. Great "bed-side" manner, easily approachable, extremely knowledgeable, and seems very experienced. Highly recommend.
Nothing bad to say. Strongly recommend him.
