Barbara Amsler, RDN, MS

Dietitian
MI
Barbara's interest in nutrition grew from her experiences working with elderly people as a young adult. She noticed the heavy burden many face with disability, polypharmacy, and poor health—issues that could often be avoided with better diet and lifestyle choices—and wanted to help people avoid this fate. Barbara graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Florida and completed a Master’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. She still lives on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. As someone who loves math and science, Barbara enjoys reading the latest studies on therapies supported by solid research, as well as new theories about what influences our health. She is currently writing a book that examines the science behind popular therapeutic diets, exploring how research explains their mechanisms and benefits. For example, recent studies increasingly highlight the importance of gut health in many diseases. While Barbara is not the most skilled cook, she thoroughly enjoys a variety of cuisines, especially Thai and Indian. She has traveled extensively in India, worked as an English teacher in South Korea, and loves learning about different cultures. Her hobbies include running, hiking, and yoga, but her favorite pastime is reading in bed with her cat, Sebastian.
