Getting to know Barbara Pangilinan

(IMPORTANT NOTICE: Pondus Wellness Group is not credentialed to accept insurance associated with MEDICAID or MEDICARE at this time. ) As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with nearly 30 years of diverse nursing experience, I began my career with an associate degree in nursing. I went on to serve in medical-surgical and community health settings. Over time, I developed a deep passion for behavioral health and have since dedicated my practice to supporting individuals on their mental health journeys. For over a decade, I served as a behavioral health nurse at the Magnet-recognized Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Jersey City Medical Center, providing psychiatric emergency care across the lifespan as well as inpatient adult psychiatric care. I was honored to receive the Daisy Award for nursing excellence during my time there. My commitment to professional growth led me to complete both my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and my Master’s in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. I also held roles in nursing leadership, where I focused on fostering high-quality, patient-centered care. As a PMHNP, I take a warm, holistic, and collaborative approach. I work closely with patients and interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans that support healing, resilience, and overall well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my approach is holistic, evidence-based, and patient-centered. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. I view mental health as an integral part of overall well-being and collaborate closely with each individual to develop personalized treatment plans that align with their goals, values, and lifestyle. I believe in the importance of therapeutic rapport, cultural sensitivity, and shared decision-making, and I integrate psychotherapy, medication management, and wellness strategies to support recovery and resilience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients can expect a warm, open-minded, and supportive environment where they feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences without judgment. To better understand each client's unique story, I take a holistic approach to care, considering the mind, body, and environment. Sessions are collaborative and focused on empowering individuals to take an active role in their mental health journey. Whether through psychotherapy, medication management, or lifestyle guidance, my goal is to help clients gain insight, build resilience, and make meaningful progress toward their personal goals. Typically, the initial intake will take about 90 minutes, and follow-up appointments are 20-30 minutes.
