What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a board-certified psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with more than four years of experience providing psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and young adults. I am also a certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-C), bringing a broader understanding of physical health to my mental health practice. I provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, and patient education. My evaluations use DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria alongside each person’s history, symptoms, and circumstances to guide diagnosis and treatment. I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where patients and families feel heard, respected, and involved in their care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin by listening to your concerns, learning about your symptoms and history, and understanding what you hope to gain from care. A psychiatric evaluation typically lasts about 45 minutes. During that visit, I complete a comprehensive assessment, discuss a diagnosis when appropriate, and work with you to develop a treatment plan. I take a holistic approach that considers your physical health, sleep, daily life, and sources of stress alongside your mental health. When clinically appropriate, I may recommend laboratory testing or coordination with your primary care provider to check for medical conditions that could contribute to your symptoms. Medication review appointments typically last about 30 minutes. We discuss how treatment is working, any side effects or concerns, and whether adjustments may be helpful. When I provide psychotherapy along with a medication review, the appointment may last 45 minutes to one hour. I may use brief questionnaires, such as the PHQ-9 for depression or GAD-7 for anxiety, to help assess symptoms and track progress. My goal is for you to feel heard, informed, and involved in decisions about your care.
