Getting to know Berline Frye

The founder and owner of BERC Medical and Behavioral Health Services LLC, Berline Frye created the company to advocate for her patients and manage their treatments with compassion, understanding, and attention to holistic care. Berline brings with her a unique set of work experiences with over 17 years in the medical field, including around 7 years as a Duo Board Certified Nurse Practitioner: Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (AGNP-BC) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). These certifications and experiences have exposed her to mental health, deepened her understanding of mental health needs, and fostered her passion and drive for helping those most in need, especially those with mental health challenges. As the patient, you should expect a warm and engaging personality and genuine empathy for your mental health needs when you meet Berline. Berline earned her Associate's degree from Stark State College, her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Adult and Geriatric Nursing from South University, and a Post-Master's Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Ursuline College. She has taught all BERC providers that a medical or mental health provider should not just prescribe medication but should first get to know you as the client, allow you to express yourself, be caring, compassionate, and listen to your needs. Mental health requires a provider who listens and invites every chance to truly know the patient.

What should a new client know about working with you?

An initial evaluation will assist in gaining insight into your personal needs. My hope is that clients will feel heard, and understood with open communication and participation in their treatment plan. I am here to help you, we will work together to identify your needs and address them. This will include the needs of your mind, body, and spirit as I use a holistic approach and not just medicine, I also use Motivational interviewing, and mindfulness among other approaches to help you get better

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with psychotherapists to make needed referrals and use evidence-based techniques that will help you overcome your mental health illness. Although I prescribe medication, Medication alone does not fully provide mental health symptom relief, but research has shown that medication and psychotherapy including Mindfulness, Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) help you identify and change thinking and behavior patterns that are harmful or ineffective, replacing them with more accurate thoughts and functional behaviors. Interpersonal therapy (IPT) is a short-term form of treatment. It will help you understand underlying interpersonal issues that are troublesome, like unresolved grief, changes in social or work roles, conflicts with significant others, and problems relating to others.
