Getting to know Bethany Potempa
I have many years of experience working in the psychiatric field across all levels of care. I earned my Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of St. Francis, and I hold bachelor's degrees from Loyola University Chicago and the University of Dayton. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I will assess your symptoms and then diagnose and treat your mental health issues. I treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, other mood and personality disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, and substance abuse. I have a friendly approach and look forward to helping you feel better.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I will listen to what is bothering you the most and treat accordingly. I use a biosocial approach to understanding the whole person and what influences behavior. I provide med management for most psychiatric illnesses. I am also trained in many different therapy modalities such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectal behavior therapy (DBT) and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT).
I am now offering genetic testing which gives you a guide as to how your body responds to certain psychiatric medications. If you have tried medications and they have failed in the past, then this test is for you. This genesight testing is done with a simple swap of the cheek which can be mailed to your house.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I will ask you to fill out intake forms before the appointment so I have a general idea of what you are coming to the appointment for. I will then conduct an initial psychiatric evaluation via Telehealth, where I ask about your past psych history, medical history, current medication and current symptoms. I will identify the problems/diagnosis and treat accordingly.
I keep the process streamlined and simple and tailor my approach to your needs.

I had a virtual appointment. It was great, Dr. Potempa was amazing, listen well and explained what she was prescribing, why she did and the desired outcome as well as side effects. She even sent me a text explaining why my prescription was delayed and that the pharmacy needed an authorization from her. I felt very comfortable talking to her as well.
