Getting to know Beverley Powell
As a Christian, I understand the challenge you face when deciding to see a psychiatric provider for depression, anxiety, mood, or any other mental health concerns because of your trust in God. I know you may fear that accepting medication means doubting God's power to heal you. The struggle to make decisions about improving or maintaining mental health is complex, and everyone-regardless of religious beliefs-faces challenges when considering mental health treatment. While much has been done to reduce the stigma of mental illness, there is still more work to be done.
I am committed to doing my part by using my love for humanity, years of experience, and training to help you improve your mental health. I earned my Master's in Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Drexel University. Before becoming an APRN, I worked as an RN for twenty years, which taught me how to care for the whole person. My experience helping clients with Substance Use Disorder has shown me that isolation often worsens these struggles.
I am deeply grateful to the many therapists who refer clients to me for evaluations, medication intervention, and management. I know how to build rapport, establish a therapeutic alliance, and show empathy. Let me assess the pre-existing, precipitating, predisposing, and protective factors influencing your ability to cope. I will listen.
