“There aren't many providers of color that are women, so I really appreciated the representation. Being able to talk to someone that looked like me was refreshing, then getting down to the actual session she is very patient. I know it's her job but she actually seems like she cares. I didn't have to repeat anything, she kept pace with me the entire time and suggested what I should do next rather than ask. Which I also appreciate. ”

Getting to know Beverly McDowell

With a robust background in nursing and mental health, I aim to empower patients through education, collaboration, and personalized treatment planning. My expertise includes the diagnosis and management of mood disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, and substance use disorders. I take a comprehensive approach that integrates medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and supportive counseling. I am committed to helping patients achieve lasting recovery and improve their overall quality of life by fostering a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet we often neglect it due to stigma or the fear of being perceived as "crazy." I am here to guide you through the challenges you face in life, providing support during both the ups and downs. Together, we can develop a personalized treatment plan that supports your mental and emotional well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my philosophy of practice is grounded in the belief that mental health is a vital component of overall wellness. Every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, empathy, and respect. I see my role as both a clinician and a partner in care, collaborating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop personalized treatment plans that address the biological, psychological, and social aspects of health.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I practice with cultural humility, recognizing each person’s unique experiences and values while advocating for equitable access to care. My goal is to provide holistic, patient-centered care that alleviates symptoms and fosters resilience, recovery, and improved quality of life—spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Life can be challenging, but together we can explore ways to cope with the ups and downs that you may encounter in everyday life.
