Getting to know Dr. Bharath Raj

I am a board-certified psychiatrist committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based mental health care. I completed my medical education at J.S.S. Medical College (MBBS) and my psychiatry residency at Loyola University Medical Center. I specialize in the treatment of adults with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and treatment-resistant depression. My practice offers advanced, evidence-based treatments including Spravato® (esketamine) therapy and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), along with convenient telepsychiatry services. In addition to my outpatient practice, I provide Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) at Woodland Springs Hospital for patients with severe or treatment-resistant conditions, ensuring access to the full spectrum of psychiatric care when higher levels of intervention are needed. My approach is collaborative and patient-centered, with a strong emphasis on education, thoughtful diagnosis, and individualized treatment planning. I work closely with each patient to develop a clear path toward symptom improvement and long-term stability.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a welcoming, thorough, and collaborative approach to care. During our first visit, I take the time to understand your history, current concerns, and treatment goals so we can develop a personalized plan together. I believe in shared decision-making and patient education, so you will have a clear understanding of your diagnosis, treatment options, and next steps at every stage of care. To help us provide timely access to care for all patients, please respond promptly to appointment reminders. Same-day cancellations and missed appointments may be subject to our office policies.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initial Evaluation: Your first visit is a comprehensive assessment where we review your history, current symptoms, and treatment goals in detail. Personalized Treatment Plan: We develop a tailored plan together, which may include medication management, coordination with therapy, and when appropriate, advanced treatments such as Spravato® (esketamine) or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Ongoing Care: Follow-up visits are scheduled regularly to monitor progress, optimize treatment, and make thoughtful adjustments over time. Collaborative Care: When appropriate, I coordinate with therapists, primary care providers, and other specialists to ensure a well-integrated and comprehensive treatment approach.

Great doc. Understands the issues and cuts to the heart of the matter.
Once i got in with the Dr. it was very pleasant and knowledgeable.
The receptionist told me not to use ZOCDOC and was rude about it.
I really appreciate Dr Raj's thoughtfulness and kind nature.
So far i am very impressed. Very honest and sincere doctor.

Very thorough, and welcoming.

The doctor was good but the receptionist is impossible. Kept cancelling my appointments, saying she'd call me back, and never returning calls. Refused to put a message through to the doctor or put me in contact with anyone else even when she could not provide a solution for me. Don't bother, even if you like the doctor you'll never get to see him again if you're trying to go through their one receptionist.
Great dr, sincear and id reccomend him.
I thought this psychiatrist was very attentive to what was going on with my diagnosis very professional and listened to what i had to say and was very concerned and cared
The office is very quiet and easy to hear what is happening in other offices. It would be good for patient privacy/HIPAA compliance to have noise dampeners
This place sucks!
It was great well explained everything very well.
Overall I would still say it was a good visit. It was a little frustrating for a few reasons. The first was having to fill out a questionaire with the same questions from what I filled out online with online check in. I was also asked the questions again with the initial sit down with an assistant. I can appreciate the need to be thorough, but it was a bit redundant. The second was that the majority of my visit was with a PA. To be fair, they did ask if it was ok. I just felt like there was extremely little time with the actual doctor and he was only going off of what the PA was telling him instead of getting to know me. Maybe save this for the second visit next time once you have a chance to establish a relationship. Overall, though, the PA was very knowledgeable and empathetic. The doctor did come in for a brief minute to explain some things and I do feel comfortable enough to continue with them.
Sadly It is so difficult to find a psychiatrist in this town with blue cross blue shield. I thought I had finally found one. I had too miss an appointment in which they made sure to collect the penalty fee, however when I told them I was out of medicine they showed no concern over that. I rescheduled and they cancelled my appointment the day before. I should probably mention that I suffer from depression and I have a brother that committed suicide. I called about the cancellation and reminded them again that I was out of medicine and they still made no effort to do anything about that. I am utterly disgusted at how careless their actions have been. Dr. Raj was very nice and attentive. I enjoyed him, but The lack of concern his staff has shown is intolerable.
The wait time took way longer than I was comfortable with - got in 5 minutes before my appt time but I had to wait almost 30 minutes before he showed up. The consultation itself was okay; Dr. Raj was welcoming, he listened well, and he seemed very knowledgeable about the questions I had. I did notice that he was very speedy with the consultation, which (depending on how you like your visits to last) was strange to me at least. He prescribed me some meds for anxiety and he requested 2 additional consultations. To be frank, I would have liked a better experience but sometimes your insurance does limit the medical help you need, and when it comes to mental health any professional help is better than none.
Had a great experience.
Dr. Raj gets you in and out as quickly as possible while still listening to what you have to say. He is always smiling too, which can be rare from a medical professional.
It was very easy, i just explained to him about my anxiety attacks and all my symptoms. And he prescribed me some medication, which is helping me alot for my panic attacks
He refused to give me my prescriptions that I had already been given in an inpatient treatment he said that I had to go through inpatient again to get the prescriptions ..I have multiple pills I have to take dailyI now feel inspired to self harm or something I'm never done before
He was good but the office was sketchy
I had a very good experience with the whole practice! Even better that they accept my (or any) insurance! I will be coming back to see Dr. Raj as my regular PDOC as long as I'm in the city. The wait staff was kind and quick, and Dr. Raj was kind and thorough. He really seemed to listen to what I was saying and I filled out the proper forms and was led to have my vitals and information taken by a nurse. When she was finished I was led to the waiting room where I took a seat and did not even have time to get out my book before Dr. Raj fetched me and we went to his office. The office itself is nothing beautiful, but it is well-stocked with puzzles to do on the tables and places to sit and wait in two separate waiting rooms (one at the entrance near the triage room and one at the back of the building closer to the offices) and when the puzzles are finished they put them up on the wall! I thought that was cute, and many people find puzzles relaxing so it was nice to have something to do.
Good visit. I knew my issues and Dr. Raj also understood. Fast, friendly, and solution-oriented doc. Friendly staff. Much appreciated.
It was a great visit, speedy attention. The layout of the office is a bit strange and the restrooms are really disgusting, found an actual cockroach. They had an office manager check my blood pressure, which was the first time I've experienced that, it's usually a nurse. The psychiatrist just asked me the basic 21 questions and prescribed me medication, didn't really give me any advice. Never experienced that with any doctor. So I will see how it goes on the second appointment. Would I come back again? I'd rather use another place, but psychiatrists are rare to find and worse part is to find one that takes your insurance.
Listens well. To the point.
It was quick, efficient, and welcoming.
It looks like a new office, had to wait in a storage room. The office manager was all over the place and paid via Swype on his cell phone. Could have been more professional
Great doctor and staff!
We are so pleased with the doctor and his staff. We did not wait, everyone was attentive to our particular needs. A very pleasant experience.
Great, quick wait, good service start to finish.
