Dr. Bill Papagiannopoulos, MD

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
7 W 36th St., 14th Fl, New York, NY
A lot of high achievers spent years compensating for something no one ever named: the focus problems you outworked in school, the anxiety that passed for ambition, the experiences you decided weren’t a big deal and moved past. By adulthood, the strategies that got you here can start costing more than they give. I’m a board-certified psychiatrist trained in both adult and child and adolescent psychiatry. I work only with adults, and that developmental training shapes how I see them. I look at how your history, and the ways you learned to cope, connect to what you’re living with now. That lens is especially useful for adult ADHD evaluations, anxiety, depression, and the lasting effects of trauma. My approach is thorough and collaborative. If you’ve wondered for years whether you have ADHD, you’ll get a careful, comprehensive evaluation, not a quick checklist. If medication makes sense, you’ll understand why, and we’ll track whether it’s working. I’m a strong fit if you want to understand the “why” behind your patterns, not just manage symptoms. I see adults 18 and older only. I don’t treat children or adolescents, and I don’t provide crisis care.

Getting to know Dr. Bill Papagiannopoulos

A lot of high achievers spent years compensating for something no one ever named: the focus problems you outworked in school, the anxiety that passed for ambition, the experiences you decided weren’t a big deal and moved past. What should a new client know about working with you?

Here’s how getting started works. 1. Book your first visit here. Within 24 hours, our care coordinator will call you for a short, complimentary fit call. She’ll confirm your goals, schedule, and coverage, and answer your questions. If we’re not the right fit, you can cancel your appointment, and we will point you toward better options. 2. Your first visit is with me. For medication management or an ADHD evaluation, it’s a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation. If you'd like psychiatric therapy, where you get therapy and medication management from one physician, it’s a 90-minute intake. We’ll cover what’s bringing you in, your history going back to childhood, what you’ve tried, and what you want to be different. You’ll leave with a clear plan. A note on ADHD evaluations: a thorough evaluation may take more than one visit. A diagnosis isn’t guaranteed, and stimulant medication isn’t automatic. You’ll get an honest answer either way. 3. Ongoing care. Medication follow-ups are 30 minutes, usually monthly. We review what’s changed, what’s working, and what’s getting in the way at work and at home, and we adjust. Already working with a therapist outside our practice? I’m glad to coordinate with them. I see adults 18 and older, in person at our Midtown office and by telehealth. I don’t provide crisis or emergency care. If you’re in crisis, call or text 988.

It depends on your out-of-network benefits. Before your first visit, call the number on your insurance card and ask: "Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? HSA and FSA cards are accepted. Cancellations: 48 hours’ notice is required. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full fee. We don’t offer sliding-scale fees for psychiatry.
