“I highly recommend this provider. In the past, I’ve had psychiatrists who asked minimal questions and ended video visits within minutes, without truly understanding who I am or what I’m going through. This provider is completely different. She takes the time to gather a thorough medical history and understand current personal concerns before making any medication decisions. She genuinely wants to know what led you to seek care in the first place. She encourages coping mechanisms and other outlets rather than immediately prescribing medication after a brief conversation. She also checks in to see whether current medications are actually working and discusses adjustments that could improve quality of life. She’s the first psychiatrist I’ve had who requested past lab work to ensure overall and continued health.”

Ms. Blessing Okuji is an adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner who offers her services via her private practice, Blessing Okuji PMHNP. She currently takes virtual appointments and is fluent in English and Igbo. Ms. Okuji earned her certificate in psychiatric mental health nursing from Pace University as part of her formal education. Ms. Okuji empowers patients to reach their personal goals during therapy by building on their strengths. By collaborating closely with each patient, she assists them in discovering realistic solutions tailored to their needs and preferences.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to providing care is holistic, client-centered, and evidence-based. I focus on treating the whole person by considering physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors that impact mental health. By listening and collaborating with clients, I develop personalized treatment plans that align with their unique needs and preferences. while empowering my clients through education and fostering a safe environment for open expression that promotes healing and well-being Through strength-based, solution-focused, and motivational interviewing, my patient will understand their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and their impact on daily activities. They will learn coping strategies to manage stress and leave the session equipped and motivated to pursue their mental health goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, I will spend time getting to know you -your current concerns, mental health history, medical background, and any major life events/stressors that might be affecting you. I will also ask questions about your sleep, mood, energy, thoughts, and behavior to help me understand what you are going through. This helps me form a diagnosis, if appropriate, and begin planning the best treatment for you. We will talk during your visit about your coping skills and resources that might help. if I think therapy could benefit you. I can refer you to a therapist and coordinate care. My goal is to work with you to find the right balance of support, whether that includes medication, therapy, or both.

Blessing was a blessing to me. I made the appointment last night and was seen at 10:30 am today. She was patient and very thorough in collecting information that she needed to make an accurate assessment. I will, most definitely, follow up with her again next week.
