“Dr. Patallo is an exceptional psychologist. His stated goal from the beginning had been to make himself not needed. He helps me develop scaffolding skills with patience, and challenges me to perceive the world as it is rather than how I want it to be. The sessions flow well and he manages to insert a sense of humor and play when appropriate, which makes difficult inner work more accessible. I consistently leave sessions empowered with new “takeaways.” I like the mix of unstructured discussion with the structure of mindfulness tenants, and the integration of multiple therapeutic approaches. ”

Getting to know Dr. Brandon Patallo

Life is increasingly complex, and it is important to find a space where you can feel grounded. My style is direct, compassionate, and collaborative. I approach things pragmatically to support you in reaching your goals and learning to leave behind what you may have outgrown. I earned my PhD and Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, where I developed a strong foundation in evidence-based practices. I believe psychologists are most effective when we examine our own context, biases, and experiences. The sign of a truly effective therapy relationship is one where you feel comfortable voicing your perspective, even if history has made you cautious. I empower my clients to find and use their voice in therapy and beyond. Our culture often places blame on the individual when (sometimes healthy) tension arises due to a lack of fit between a person and their environment. My therapy environment is built uniquely with you, addressing this crucial aspect. In general, our work will include a mix of skills-based approaches (CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing), an emphasis on a strong collaborative relationship, and mindfulness toward our values and how they might conflict with the systems you exist in. Cultural humility, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ+ affirming care are core pillars. Once in touch with our values, it becomes easier to find a way forward. While life will always have stumbles, you’ll gain the skills and resilience to make those stumbles occur less often and leave fewer marks. In our journey together, I look forward to helping you navigate life’s complexities with humor, curiosity, and expertise, guiding you toward a brighter, more fulfilling path.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am trained to work with children, adolescents, and adults in a number of evidence-based treatments. I specialize in supporting clients who are coping with major life transitions. I am an In-Network provider with Northwell Direct Tier 1 plans. We provide out-of-network billing support for reimbursement for all other clients. If we are not in-network with your plan we will work to get you significant reimbursement for the cost of your sessions. We submit claims on behalf of our patients so that you don’t have to deal with your insurance company. Here’s how works. Before you start therapy we will collect your insurance information, check your insurance benefits, provide you with an estimate of those benefits, and then allow you to make the most educated decision possible about your investment in therapy. If you decide to work with us, we will submit your insurance claims every week and give you access to the portal to check the status of the reimbursements. It is our goal to always remain transparent and to make the process of insurance reimbursements as clear as possible.
