Getting to know Brandy Colvin
Hi, my name is Brandy and I'm a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner serving clients in North Carolina. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, insomnia & sleep issues, bipolar disorder, life transitions, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)/trauma. I’ve been in nursing for 15 years and completed my psychiatric training at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. I’m passionate about destigmatizing mental healthcare, and together with my colleagues at Lavender Psychiatry, I’m on a mission to create a world where feelings are felt, respected and cared for.

My therapeutic style is characterized by warmth, engagement, and a genuine personal connection. I believe in establishing a strong, collaborative relationship with each client, where we work together to make informed decisions about their treatment. My practice is inclusive and welcoming, embracing diversity in culture, background, and experience. I have worked with a wide range of clients, including students, parents, professionals from various fields, skilled tradespeople, service industry workers, retail employees, entrepreneurs, artists, and technology experts. I am committed to providing a safe and supportive space where each individual feels heard, understood, and empowered to achieve their therapeutic goals.
Throughout my nursing career in both inpatient and outpatient settings, I witnessed how mental health impacts every aspect of a patient's wellbeing—yet psychiatric care often remained stigmatized or inaccessible. I was drawn to this specialty because it allows me to provide the compassionate, evidence-based treatment that so many people need but struggle to access.
Becoming a PMHNP gave me the clinical autonomy to build meaningful therapeutic relationships and help patients navigate some of their most difficult moments. I appreciate the complexity of psychiatric care—the careful assessment, the nuanced medication management, and the importance of meeting each person where they are without judgment.
Telehealth has expanded my ability to reach patients across multiple states, breaking down barriers to care. Everyone deserves accessible, compassionate mental health support, and I'm committed to making that a reality.
Starting treatment can be a scary and intimidating process, I’ve successfully treated many people who are new to psychiatric care.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Booking Process:
Request your appointment time on Zocdoc. My office will email you an online intake form to ensure I’m able to help you. If we’re a fit, we’ll reach out to confirm an appointment time. I try my best to keep slots available each week for new clients.
Your First Visit:
The initial session is a comprehensive, one-hour evaluation which allows me to understand your current symptoms and difficulties, and learn about important aspects of your past psychiatric, medical, social, educational, and family histories. At the end of the session, we’ll determine the best treatment course. Session frequency ranges from weekly to monthly depending on the type of treatment you’re looking for.
If you’re already seeing a therapist, I’m happy to collaborate with them while guiding the medication aspect of your treatment. However, many of my clients see me for both therapy and medication management.
My practice, Lavender Psychiatry, is founded and fueled by board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioners who create therapeutic journeys that are kind, convenient and transparent so that people can flourish. We have a fantastic team that works together to ensure our clients are well taken care of. This includes our care concierge team who is available 7 days a week between your appointments, to help answer questions and assist with any issues regarding coverage and prescriptions etc. We also have covering providers in case I’m away and an urgent matter arises.
