Getting to know Brent Whitley

Important: Please Read Before Booking Your Appointment - After booking your appointment through ZocDoc, we will send you a detailed intake form to complete. - Please review your insurance benefits before booking; you may be responsible for the full cost if your deductible hasn’t been met. - Our practice does not accept any Medicaid plans, such as AHCCCS (Arizona) and Health First (Colorado). - There is a $45 fee for late cancellations (less than 24 hours) and a $95 fee for missed appointments. *Please note that I am currently only conducting intake appointments. At the end of our session, I will match you with another provider in our practice who will oversee your ongoing care. I hold a Master’s in Nursing from Vanderbilt University, which informs my approach to patient care and intake assessments.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Peak Mental Health, based in Phoenix, Arizona, is where I bring years of clinical experience and a genuine passion for providing exceptional psychiatric care. My focus is on working closely with individuals to help them overcome mental health challenges and live a fulfilling life. Before establishing Peak Mental Health, I gained extensive experience working in diverse clinical settings, such as outpatient psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, and as a psychiatric consultant for several primary care offices. I hold a Bachelor of Science in molecular biology from Appalachian State University, as well as a master's degree in Organic Chemistry and a master's degree in Advanced Practice Nursing from Vanderbilt University. My expertise as a licensed Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in both Arizona and Colorado enables me to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to individuals struggling with mental health issues. *Please note that I am currently only doing intake appointments. At the end of our session, I'll match you with another provider in our practice who will oversee your ongoing care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My aim is to get to know you better by asking about your background, current issues you are facing, and any previous treatments you have received. I prefer to keep this session flexible so you can address any concerns you may have. Towards the end of our meeting, we will collaborate to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs. I will also provide you with relevant information about any prescribed medications and answer any questions you may have. *Please note that I am currently only doing intake appointments. At the end of our session, I'll match you with another provider in our practice who will oversee your ongoing care.

In-network insurances

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront

More information on payments and coverage

A quick note on insurance: I know navigating insurance plans and copays can be confusing, so I want to be upfront about coverage before you book. I’m in-network with most health insurance plans, but I want to make sure there are no surprises when it comes to billing. At this time, I’m not in-network with Medicaid plans, including AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) and Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid) — even if they’re combined with another type of insurance. Due to state regulations, I’m unable to see patients with Medicaid coverage. If you have UnitedHealthcare insurance and your Member ID begins with the letter ‘A’, your plan is a Community Plan, which is part of Medicaid and not accepted at our practice. I truly wish I could treat everyone, but unfortunately, some types of coverage prevent me from providing care. If this applies to you, I completely understand how frustrating that may be and encourage you to check with your plan for in-network providers who can meet your needs.

His office communicated clearly with me before the appointment and I was given clear instructions on the paperwork I had to complete. It was a telehealth visit; he showed up on Zoom on time, and I didn't have to wait. He listened to me and then asked me the right questions to diagnose accurately and then told me about the medication he was going to give me, what to expect, and what the side effects were. All in all, very good appointment, and would recommend

I had an overall great experience. I was able to express what I needed, and my doctor was able to provide me with an adequate recommendation for further treatment. He was polite, friendly, empathetic and listened to my concerns and met them as well as needed medication.

I really didn't know what to expect as I've barely just begun my journey in seeking support for anything mental health related. Already in my 30's I thought that I'd just be going through life trying to "cope" through or with my ADHD for example, I had it stuck in my head that it's just the way that I am. I was at another clinic in Arizona until they stopped taking patients as of November 2023. I was then referred again to another facility but after reading reviews on the place, I was completely turned off to attending for treatment or support. I was simply browsing on Google when I came across Zocdoc - I haven't ever heard of it before. After reviewing providers that practice in Arizona and who take my insurance, I came across Mr. Whitley. I was somewhat skeptical as I've never utilized Zoom for my visits and I didn't know what to expect. He was so nice, patient, empathetic, easy going. I am so relieved to have found someone like him! I am looking forward to staying long term!

I couldn’t get into the zoom meeting. I figured they would cancel the appointment because we couldn’t open the paper work email either. My computer was malfunctioning. My 14 year old son had just learned something very upsetting. The doctor called my son and really calmed him down. This is one doctor that really cares.

I was both validated and given the best options for my situation. Appreciate the extra time put in to help me work thru my personal issues. Didn’t feel rushed out the door like some places.

Originally, I had chosen Brent after reading his goals and mission statement as a healthcare provider on his website. I was still skeptical about finding a new NP online, but was pleasantly surprised when I had my appointment. He was compassionate, caring, and down-to-earth, not to mention knowledgable! Not only was the staff helpful, they sent clear and concise instructions for insurance, billing, and portal navigation. He really listened to my needs, judgement free, and immediately took action for me to heal and move in the right direction. Excellent communication from both him and the staff.

Brent is fantastic! If you were looking for someone, who’s a good listener and communicates well, you found your guy. I have had bad experiences in the past. He never double books. He’s always available by email or portal. He’s very knowledgeable and willing to offer advice or other ways to go about it. He’s very respectful, kind and enjoyable to visit with. ? I highly recommend his practice!
