Become a person you admire... My goal in therapy is to be a guide for each individual as they become a person they honestly admire and respect. Clients need to be ready to explore with honesty and courage the patterns of behavior and relationships that leave them unhappy and repeating mistakes. Exploring the past, we look for beliefs and historical factors that create vulnerability for engaging in negative behaviors, and discover untapped strengths and potentials. Assessing the present, we find the obstacles, challenges, and opportunities that fill your days, so that you can develop patterns of greater enjoyment and personal satisfaction. Dreaming of the future, we develop and move toward realistic goals so that you are not looking back over a life of "I wish I would have." While maintaining a positive tone and outlook, I believe therapy is less about helping you feel good and more about helping you be good so you feel good. Sessions focus on understanding and altering less helpful, protective patterns of interaction and behavior and actively developing patterns that create excitement and greater intrinsic personal satisfaction. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Emory University, which informs my approach and commitment to evidence-based, compassionate care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My theoretical frameworks are grounded in interpersonal and Adlerian psychology. Over 30 years of clinical experience has added a variety of approaches that fit with those theories in helping clients achieve their goals and progress toward their dreams. Sessions are client driven. You are the reporter and creator of your experiences. Sessions focus on developing greater awareness of your self and how you interact with the world around you. Whether it is increasing flexibility, establishing boundaries, improving confidence, or allowing more flexibility, to name a few, clients learn to develop a new set of automatic habits that improve their life satisfaction and allow them to handle better the variety of challenges they face. I accept private pay through Venmo for sessions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

After you book online, I will want to speak with you further via phone about your specific needs and expectations, to make sure we are good fit. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet about diagnoses and evaluations, as well as people wanting a specific treatment based on self diagnosis and online research. A quick phone call decreases the chances of mismatches in expectations. Once we identify a match of expectations, the initial session begins with a survey of the current challenges, the history of those challenges and attempts to address them, and goals for our therapy work together. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which the client learns to make impactful changes that best fit their current lifestyle but also allow for the changes they desire. Subsequent sessions are a process of follow up and follow through on the client's understanding of their choices and patterns, as well as the manner in which different interventions are of benefit to them. Over time, most clients find that altering their understanding, perceptions, and behavioral patterns produces the lasting changes that brought them to therapy.
