Getting to know Dr. Briana Mathews
Dr. Mathews is an adult psychiatrist who works with young adults and adults struggling with anxiety and depressive disorders. She uses a compassionate, non-judgmental, and reflective approach to listening and working with clients. Dr. Mathews’ practice focuses on medication management, offered in conjunction with supportive therapy in 30-minute follow-up visits.
Dr. Mathews completed medical school at Stony Brook University School of Medicine where she also earned her masters in Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics. She completed her adult psychiatry residency training program at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
The philosophy of Dr. Mathews’ practice is to help promote each individual’s natural capacity for healing. She ultimately strives to help clients create rich and meaningful lives while also offering mindfulness skills to empower clients to effectively cope with the pain and suffering that life can bring.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

My appointment booked 2 weeks (!) in advance got rescheduled and then cancelled at all, quote, "due to scheduling conflict" less then 24 hours before the appointment was planned. The doctor is booked out for the next 3 weeks. Wasted my time literally for nothing.

honestly she is great. listened to everything i had to say and was extremely empathetic. i had multiple appointments before we even DISCUSSED medicine because she wanted to get to really know me and my specific needs before she jumped to prescribing me something. looking on zocdoc seemed iffy for me but i really feel like i found a gold mine here. i went through many psychiatrists because it seemed like nobody cared or understood what i was going through, but this experience was very different. highly recommend her!

Dr. Matthews was very attentive and present during initial consultation. Even though it was only suppose to be 45 mins she stayed on for a total of 70 minutes. I felt very heard and my concerns were validated. We talked about medication same day as I was interested in that and we went over side effects and the right dose for me. Overall, I felt Dr. Matthews showed great compassion and empathy towards my concerns. I would highly recommend her!
