Getting to know Dr. Bruce Borkosky

Dr. Borkosky only takes self-pay patients and does not prescribe medication. Warm, generous, and comforting, Dr. Borkosky is well suited to the first-time counseling client who has some problems but is uncertain about whether counseling can help. What can you expect from counseling? It depends on your needs, as Dr. Borkosky tries to help you with your problems as you see them. Patients often find that he asks questions that make them think or even that they never thought of before. He often sees patterns of interactions that aren't working well and thinks outside the box to come up with new solutions to problems. Many people are discouraged, but they find that small victories give them hope. Since becoming licensed in 1994, Dr. Borkosky has treated or evaluated tens of thousands of patients. This wealth of experience has enabled him to develop a keen clinical knowledge and ability to understand people. He is proud to have learned many practical techniques to life's many problems and enjoys bringing patients' goals within reach. Dr. Borkosky earned his PsyD in Psychology from Albizu University. He also practices in the courtroom. As a forensic specialist and expert witness, he has been admitted as an expert in many circuit and county courts in Florida.

What should a new client know about working with you?

DR. BORKOSKY ONLY TAKES SELF PAY PATIENTS. DR. BORKOSKY DOES NOT PRESCRIBE MEDICATION. I find myself working with two kinds of clients: Some clients want an interactive, collaborative, solution-focused kind of therapy. They have immediate, specific problems that they want help with and want support from a non-biased outsider who can look at the bigger picture. With these clients, we think outside of the box, creating practical solutions to these problems. I call these solutions 'tips and tricks' - using what we know about how the brain and body work, these suggestions often help stop doing things that don't work and start doing things that offer faster, easier results. Other clients have long struggled with a difficult past and problematic interpersonal relationships. For example, many people have been abused or neglected during childhood and can't seem to shake the feelings and memories resulting from those days. Others find themselves repeating the same kinds of dysfunctional relationships, can't seem to stop and can't figure out why. For these patients, we explore the past, the formative events that created how we turned out and how that plays out in the present. In other words, its a process of discovery and insight into oneself that results in a new, whole person who is stronger, better able to function in the world, and satisfied with their life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

DR. BORKOSKY ONLY TAKES SELF PAY PATIENTS. DR. BORKOSKY DOES NOT PRESCRIBE MEDICATION. Each session varies according to the patient's needs. I often use a fishing guide as an example. A fishing guide knows all about the tackle, gear, the fishing hole and the fish; however, the customer decides when to fish, what kind of fish s/he is seeking, and does all the fishing. One of the key techniques of a good therapist is being able to ask questions that you have never thought to ask before or never discussed in depth.

I waited and after 5 minutes I called and left a voicemail, but no answer. I emailed him then too.. he emails me back an hour later and says “I thought you cancelled. Want to proceed” I said “no I never cancelled, yes I want to proceed” but then no response back. I took the day off work and saved up money a psychological evaluation. I was also court ordered so now I have a probation violation. I wouldn’t recommend booking this guy to anyone who needs it. Not to mention my insurance wasn’t going to cover any of it neither.

I absolutely do not recommend anyone seeing Bruce Borkosky unless you’re fine with getting no evaluation (eval) from him at the end of the appt and essentially having no services rendered. I recently saw him for an eval and I was aware of him not taking insurance which I had no issues with. I am a veteran and due to the VA taking a long time to see patients, I wanted an eval done quickly and I was happy to pay the cash fee. I soon came to find that he is very quick to have you do everything on his terms/time, his client portal (not through Zocdoc), but he will not communicate with you when you try to reach out to him via email/phone/client portal. He also rescheduled our appt at the last minute and once we had our appt, he didn’t provide me my eval or any feedback, he just asked questions and ended our appointment quickly. I had also requested him to send over my eval to my primary doctor’s office and they have yet to receive it after I have reached out to him numerous times.

Waited all night to see if my insurance was accepted as it said it was pending, it asked me to provide all of my insurance information for no reason because apparently this guy only takes cash. Which I wasn’t told until after the session was completed and then he’s saying he tried to charge my card to pay out of pocket to tell me I should write down my thoughts. No real help or anything that made me feel any better asked me questions that made me feel extremely confused and left me feeling like there’s not much hope for change. As he said medication won’t help will only make me feel “less emotions overall” and all I can do is journal my thoughts? And then had an attitude when I told him I can’t afford that and I was trying to pay with insurance. All I have to say is he should have been clear from the get go that my insurance was not accepted instead of requesting all my information for insurance through the app.

I met Dr Borkosky by telehealth appointment and therefore had no comments about his office since I did not experience either his office or his staff. Also, I knew his office owuld not accept my insurance and it was no surprise. I was happy to cover the cost myself. Please do not post my name on any review. Thank you.

A very good experience and I look forward to working with Bruce to experience more different therapeutic boundaries and outcomes.

It took a bit of work due to my connection being spotty at best for a telehealth visit however once that was sorted out (using a different connection. He was polite understanding and a great listener he was able to answer any questions that I had and help me delve deeper into myself in a meaningful and important way when it came to personal growth. Be honest and you will go far with him.
