About Dr. Carlos Castro
Dr. Castro is a highly trained Spine Surgeon, having completed multiple fellowships at world-renowned hospitals, such as Hospital for Special Surgery, Yale University and Twin Cities Spine Center. Dr. Castro completed his medical school and residency in his hometown of Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Catholic University of Sao Paulo and Public Hospital of Sao Paulo.
Dr. Castro has contributed to 90 studies on operative techniques and treatment methods of the spine that have been published and are in the press. Dr. Carlos has presented his findings at national and international forums, such as the Orthopedic Research Society, International MAST, NASS, and Latin America SAS.
Dr. Castro is licensed to practice in NY and is board specialized with the Brazilian Board of Orthopedic Surgery as well as the Brazilian Board of Spine Surgery. Dr. Castro is fluent in both English, Spanish and Portuguese.

I am disappointed by the level of care and attention the doctor provided. I told him about the shoulder and back issues I was feeling and he jumped to ordering x-rays without asking me more questions or doing a physical exam. No assessment of motion or palpitation. In total he looked at me for less than 3 minutes and started writing the x-ray referral. When the office scheduled my follow up, they didn’t even ask me what time works. On my way out, the doctor asked if I would like to do physical therapy. I was dumbfounded given how little attention he gave me and how he said it in a way that didn’t convey confidence in a recommendation that a doctor would make based on evidence.

This isn't over yet so I don't have a whole bunch to say. But I traveled over an hour for a five minute appointment just for a MRI referral, some steroids, and a five minute appointment. He's a very very sweet man, and obviously a good doctor. I'll be seeing him again shortly.

My visit with Dr Carlos Castro , was excellent, he listen to my problem and he take care of my problem by doing an x ray on my knee and also a Mri to see what going on with my knee , which when he get the result he will take it from there , which i know he will do an excellent job. I waited over two hours for my appointment and then saw the doctor for five minutes, at which point he basically told me to keep self medicating. I will not be back to this office.

Went there with a bad shoulder tear. My shoulder was very painfull for 3 months even with theraphy amost everyday. I could not tolerated those pain medications any more. Surgery was needed. Dr Weinstein and Dr castro scheduled in a place in Astoria, i dont remember the name. Dr Weinstein performed the surgery. All went well.Today I went back with Dr Castro and he removed my sutures, I love that doctor, he is so calm. And My Shoulder is not 100% but it is at least 90% better. I could not live like that and now... if stays like this I am super happy!

My conversation with Dr. castro was very professional. Dr. castro was very thorough and was able to figure out the problem with my back pain when no other orthopedic was able to. I had been to several orthopedic doctors and it was always just epidural injections and what I had it was a piriformis syndrome.He shows much pride in his work and you can tell he cares about his patients. He works extremely hard for his patients and makes them feel at ease. I would highly recommend Dr. castro.

This was just an initial consultation for surgery with Dr. Castro. I was told by a different spine surgeon that I have herniated disc L4-5. I have severe pain on my left leg and even my strehnch is reduced on my left foot. I was offered a big surgery with a fusion surgerie in 3 different levels and that is what makes me look for a second opiniao. Dr. Castro seems to be very experienced and he tols me I was able to do just one level with minimally invasive surgery. I really appreciated his intuitive sensibilities when it came up to assessing my case. Too many prior doctors have paid more attention to my MRI's than my symptoms.I also heard really good things about Dr. Weinstein and they both operate together. I am looking forward to see him again! He ordered one more test and I think after that we will move with the surgery.
