Carlos Feliciano Rodriguez, APRN, RN

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
FL
I work with people ages 6 and older experiencing depression, trauma-related symptoms, ADHD, anxiety, life transitions, chronic stress, and burnout. I have a particular understanding of the experiences of veterans, military families, healthcare professionals, and individuals managing chronic health concerns. My approach is evidence-based, collaborative, and focused on the whole person. I combine comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management with therapeutic techniques, psychoeducation, and practical coping strategies. I consider factors such as sleep, physical health, relationships, stress, culture, and lifestyle because mental health does not exist in isolation. I value honesty, trust, clear communication, and shared decision-making. My goal is to provide a respectful, nonjudgmental environment where each person feels heard, informed, and actively involved in developing a realistic treatment plan that supports both symptom relief and long-term growth.

My approach is evidence-based, collaborative, and focused on the whole person. What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is direct, structured, and goal-oriented while remaining compassionate, flexible, and responsive to each person’s needs. I believe effective mental health care begins with listening carefully and developing a clear understanding of what you are experiencing, how it affects your daily life, and what you hope to achieve through treatment. You can expect open communication, thoughtful questions, and clear explanations of clinical impressions and treatment options. I encourage questions and shared decision-making so that you understand the potential benefits, limitations, and risks of each option. Recommendations may include medication management, therapeutic strategies, psychoeducation, lifestyle considerations, or coordination with other healthcare professionals when appropriate. For children and adolescents, care may also involve collaboration with a parent or guardian while respecting the young person’s developmental needs, privacy, and role in treatment. My goal is to create a respectful, nonjudgmental environment where clients and families feel heard, informed, and actively involved in the treatment process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session focuses on developing a comprehensive understanding of your concerns, history, strengths, and treatment goals. We will review current symptoms, medical and mental health history, previous medications or treatments, family history, sleep, physical health, substance use, relationships, stressors, and safety concerns. Developmental, educational, occupational, legal, and military history may also be explored when relevant. After the evaluation, I will discuss my clinical impressions and explain the available treatment options. Together, we will develop an individualized plan that may include medication, therapeutic strategies, psychoeducation, lifestyle recommendations, further assessment, laboratory testing, or coordination with other healthcare professionals. Treatment decisions are made collaboratively, with time for questions and informed consent. Follow-up sessions focus on progress toward treatment goals, changes in symptoms and functioning, medication effectiveness and side effects, new concerns, and any needed adjustments. I incorporate supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and practical cognitive and behavioral strategies when appropriate. The treatment plan is reviewed over time and adjusted according to clinical response, preferences, and changing needs.
