“Dr. Biernacki is great at communicating mental healthcare concepts in a way that is professional yet personable. The experience never felt overtly clinical, something that I was initially afraid of when looking for help. I would recommend Dr. Biernacki to anybody looking for psychiatric help free of feeling judged or overanalyzed. I felt that everything I was communicating to her was genuinely heard and thoughtfully responded to. The office and waiting area is comfortable and clean.”

Getting to know Dr. Carolina Biernacki

Carolina Biernacki, M.D., is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist based in the Flatiron. She sees patients of all ages struggling with mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, loss, ADHD, adjustment difficulties, family, social, or professional stress, and overall difficulty functioning. Dr. Biernacki earned her Doctor of Medicine from Poznan University of Medical Sciences Center for Medical Education in English. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Psychiatry at Mount Sinai West, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Biernacki's aim is always to work collaboratively with patients to gain a thorough understanding of their symptoms, situation, and other contributing factors in order to offer a treatment plan that aligns with their needs, wants, and expectations. Her approach is evidence-based, patient-centered, culturally sensitive, and comprehensive, taking into account a client's origins, lifestyle, habits, and expectations in addition to their medical and psychiatric history. She views mental health as the cornerstone of overall health and therefore focuses on building resiliency and optimizing mental well-being rather than simply addressing symptoms.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Despite increased mental health awareness globally, Dr. Biernacki knows that it can still be difficult to seek treatment and discuss deeply personal issues upon meeting. She wants every client to know that she understands the importance of feeling at ease and being truly heard, and works collaboratively to make the process as smooth and helpful as possible.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Typical treatment consists of medication management, therapy or both. While Dr. Biernacki provides psychotherapy to most of her patients, she does see many for medication management only and collaborates with external therapists. For children and adolescent patients, she works with school counsellors and teachers - in addition to parents, of course - and can refer for neuropsych testing and review IEPs. Dr. Biernacki also has a referral network for DBT, group treatments, TMS and ketamine.

Dr Biernacki was great. I felt comfortable speaking to her and she clearly has a lot of experience. She seems to be an excellent psychiatrist and I am hopeful that she can help me.
It was a really good appointment and I would definitely recommend it. That said - the appointment changed from in-person to virtual the night before which I did not realize. It would be good to have more forewarning whether an appointment is virtual or in-person well in advance of the appointment.
    Everything was great as expected.
Dr. B is a fantastic listener and really cares. She understands the teen mind and is very relatable for them. My son had. An instant connection with her. Highly recommend!

Dr. Biernacki has been very easy to work with, especially with the video appointment system. Payment has been easy and through Venmo. She does not accept private insurance but has provided receipts so that I can file claims with my insurance company. The doctor is very kind, very thorough, and has done a good job.

It was my very first time going to a psychiatrist and I was very nervous about the experience. I'm happy to say I felt heard, understood, and it was very much a safe space. Dr. Biernacki gave me all the time I needed to explain and was polite and patient in the times she had follow up questions. It was a productive session and I absolutely recommend her.
My visit was quick, concise, and helpful.
    Extremely helpful and attentive.
