Getting to know Caroline Shodunola

Hello, my name is Caroline Odior Shodunola, and I am a Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I specialize in providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care across the lifespan. My clinical focus includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and therapeutic support for individuals experiencing conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma-related disorders, and other mental health challenges. I am committed to creating a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and supported. I believe in a collaborative approach to care, working closely with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that promote emotional well-being, resilience, and long-term recovery.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach and style of care are collaborative, supportive, and tailored to each individual. I believe therapy works best when you feel heard, respected, and actively involved in your treatment. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to your needs, which may include supportive therapy. Treatment plans are flexible and may evolve as your goals and circumstances change. When medication is part of treatment, I take a thoughtful and conservative approach—carefully weighing benefits, risks, and your preferences. Education is a crucial aspect of my work, and I will clearly explain the options so you can make informed decisions. Above all, I value partnership. We will work together to build insight, develop coping skills, and support your long-term mental wellness at a pace that feels right for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session focuses on getting to know you. We’ll review your concerns, history, symptoms, and goals. I’ll take time to listen and ask questions so I can understand the full picture of your mental health and what you’re hoping to achieve from care. 2. Collaborative Treatment Planning After the evaluation, we’ll discuss my clinical impressions and possible treatment options. Together, we’ll create a plan that may include therapy, medication, lifestyle strategies, or referrals—always tailored to your needs, preferences, and comfort level. 3. Ongoing Sessions and Support Follow-up visits are used to check in on progress, address challenges, build coping skills, and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Sessions are focused, supportive, and goal-oriented, while still leaving room for what feels most important to you. 4. Medication Management (When Applicable) If medication is part of your care, we’ll carefully review benefits, risks, side effects, and alternatives. I monitor your response closely and make adjustments thoughtfully and collaboratively. 5. Progress Review and Adjustment Mental health care is not static. We regularly review your goals and progress, celebrating improvements and modifying the plan when life circumstances or needs change. 6. Transition or Maintenance As symptoms improve, we may space out visits, focus on maintenance strategies, or plan for a transition of care. My goal is to support you in building skills and confidence that promote long-term wellness. We use Talk therapy to offer specialized guidance to address thoughts and feelings that promote personal growth and improve your overall well-being .
