Getting to know Carolyn Conover

Hi, I’m Carolyn Conover, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) originally from the Hudson Valley of New York. I earned my nursing degrees from New York University (BSN) and Pace University (MSN), and my path into psychiatry was shaped by years working in inpatient psychiatry and the emergency department, where I cared for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Those experiences showed me how powerful consistent, compassionate psychiatric care can be—and how often people struggle to access it. I take a warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed approach to treatment, focusing on anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma-related concerns. I believe mental health care isn’t about fixing who you are, but about helping you feel supported, understood, and confident in your ability to move forward. My goal is to meet you where you are, involve you fully in your care, and work together toward lasting stability and well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a laid-back, conversational approach because I believe real healing happens through genuine human connection. Mental health care shouldn’t feel clinical or intimidating - it should feel like an open, honest discussion where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you unlock the potential that’s already there. I bring my expertise in psychiatry, but the best outcomes happen when we work together to find what truly fits you. Whether that’s medication, therapy, or simple lifestyle changes, my goal is to collaborate with you in a way that feels natural and empowering.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first visit is all about listening and discussing your options. There’s zero pressure, no expectations - just a conversation to explore what’s going on and what might help. We’ll take the time to dive into the root cause of your struggles and figure out what approaches make the most sense for you. My goal is to make sure you leave that first appointment feeling informed, supported, and in control of your next steps. Whether that means starting medication, considering therapy, or simply learning more about your options, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.
