Dr. Carolyn Peterseim, MD

Family Physician
1101 S Cedar Crest Blvd, Suite 200, Allentown, PA
Philosophy of care I believe in providing comprehensive, patient-centered care that addresses not just individual health needs, but also considers the broader social and environmental factors that influence well-being. My approach combines evidence-based medicine with a deep appreciation for the cultural and community context of each patient's life. I strive to empower patients with knowledge and tools to take an active role in their health, focusing on prevention and promoting overall wellness. Why I entered medicine My journey into medicine began with a passion for cultural anthropology and a desire to merge societal-level interventions with individual care. As a 19-year-old cultural anthropology major at Duke University, I realized I wanted to become a doctor who could bridge the gap between those levels of care. That led me to family and preventive medicine, where I can work at the intersection of clinical practice, public health and community engagement. I'm driven by the opportunity to address health disparities and promote wellness at both the individual and population levels. Community involvement I'm involved in community health initiatives, particularly those focused on diabetes prevention/treatment and improving health care access for underserved populations. I've worked with organizations like the Diabetes Coalition of the Lehigh Valley and Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley, and I advocate for and support their ongoing work to improve health equity. Previously, I served as a grant writer and board member for CARES, a student-led clinic providing care to uninsured patients. I've also participated in policy advocacy efforts to promote public health measures and expand access to preventive care services. Personal interests Outside of medicine, I'm an enthusiastic singer and have been part of various choirs throughout my education and career, including the MUSC Gospel Choir and Duke Chapel Choir.
