What should a new client know about working with you?

As an associate marriage and family therapist, I believe in cultivating a sense of connection and vulnerability with clients to promote healing. It is important to maintain a sense of playfulness throughout our lives and remind ourselves what makes us unique. Looking at the strengths we already possess within us, we can learn how to use that inherent strength to reach our most authentic self. When we can learn to practice authenticity safely, it gives us the courage to seek out and maintain connections. I also believe in the importance of encouraging my client to develop courage in themselves. Encouragement is akin to empowerment. It involves facilitating the development and maintenance of a sense of confidence and hope in the face of trying conditions. In therapy, we practice what a healthy relationship looks like through an ongoing process of connection and disconnection, which is natural in any given relationship. The therapeutic relationship is a space that allows you to be your true self while learning and unlearning ways in which we connect with others. When we build a relationship that feels mutually empowering, then we feel encouraged and excited to seek out more connections in our everyday lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I specialize in supporting individuals with LGBTQIA+ issues, gender identity, sexuality, self-esteem, grief, trauma, family systems, depression, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, substance use, various mood disorders and healthy boundaries. In my practice, I use gender affirming language, a person-centered and relationship-centered approach, strengths-based lens, trauma-informed lens, restorative justice, mindfulness, relational-cultural therapy, family systems, motivational interviewing, and multicultural competency.
