Melone, Jr., M.D. specializes in sports injuries to the hand and wrist, arthritis of the hand and wrist, wrist fractures, fracture-dislocations, scleroderma, microsurgery, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Over the past 40 years in practice, Dr. Melone has gained a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable hand surgeons in the United States. Dr. Melone earned his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University. He completed an internship in surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Nassau University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in hand surgery at New York University. He is Director of the Division of Hand Surgery at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In 1999, he received the Distinguished Service Citation from New York University Medical School. Dr. Melone has committed himself to many professional organizations. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Association and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Association for Hand Surgery, and New York Society for Surgery of the Hand. In 1994, he was appointed to the Medical Advisory Board of the New York State Athletic Commission. Furthermore, Dr. Melone serves as a hand consultant for the Scleroderma Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation. He has also served as a hand surgery consultant for the majority of New York and New Jersey professional sports teams and the New York City Public School Athletic League. His academics are as extensive and impressive as his surgical accomplishments.
