Charlotte Szabo, APRN, RN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
MN
Hello! I’m Charlotte, a doctorate level, board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. When medication is a part of your overall plan to manage and improve your mental health, I’m your person. I enjoy working with a wide variety of patients, from those who have trouble dealing with stress to the most serious and challenging combinations of psychiatric disorders. My extensive work experience includes hospital settings, serving as the Psychiatry Lead at the University of Minnesota’s Community Health Care Center (CUHCC), and various outpatient clinical practices with a wide scope of patients from different ages, political, religious, ethnic, sexual, and socio-economic backgrounds. As a registered health care practitioner in the Minnesota Medical Cannabis Registry, I also register patients who might benefit from medical marijuana after having had unsuccessful trials with traditional psychotropic medications. As a side note, I speak 4 languages (Hungarian, Italian, Spanish, and English) fluently and enjoy so much connecting on a linguistic level with my patients – other than English – when possible.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that trust is the glue that holds all relationships together, and trust is based on integrity. Because of that I work best with patients who genuinely want to get better and are willing to put in the hard work to better their lives. I invest a lot of effort, thought, and knowledge into each one of my patients and get the best results when there is an investment from you as well. My patients often say that they feel that I sincerely care about them, and they’re right – because I treat each person who comes to me looking for help in their lives as if they were part of my family. If you’re willing to take the courageous step and reach out for help with your mental health, then I will be there on the other end helping you improve your quality of life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In order to help you achieve your best self, we will approach your mental health struggles through a non-judgmental perspective, utilizing a combination of therapeutic approaches – I routinely apply Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), pairing these therapies with a carefully selected medication regimen.
