Getting to know Dr. Cherise White

Therapy is a unique experience that can be challenging, yet it tends to offer great rewards. In fact, self-work is a large contributor to helping us achieve progress in our lives. The difficult thoughts and feelings that we hold deep within ourselves can negatively impact our mood, success, health, and overall happiness—until we make the brave decision to unearth, examine, and learn from them in the therapeutic process. I bring a strong educational background to this work, including a PhD in Clinical Psychology from City University of New York, City College; a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and a Master’s in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. Additionally, I completed an internship at Hartford Hospital’s Institute of Living, which has further enriched my clinical experience and approach.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have 10 years of experience as a therapist supporting and empowering clients in achieving their unique therapeutic and life goals. I work alongside my clients as they embark on a journey of diving deep into self-exploration, developing actionable insights, navigating relationships, and identifying and expressing emotional needs. Further, we work together to build and enhance skills to manage and ultimately discard distressing thoughts, feelings, and symptoms. This process integrates a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic (insight-oriented) therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, as well as other solution-focused and mindfulness-based techniques. While I help clients with many types of difficulties, I have particular expertise in the treatment of anxiety, depression, work stress, culture and identity issues, adult ADHD, trauma, and relational problems at work, with partners, friends, and family. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the City College of New York. I have a master's degrees in Social Work from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and an additional masters of science in Industrial Organizational Psychology from the University of Tennesse. I completed my doctoral clinical internship at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut and I trained in the University of Michigan's Department of Psychiatry. I have specialized experience working with high level professionals, people of diverse backgrounds and members of the LBGTQ community.
