Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
1 Sansome St, 35th Fl, San Francisco, CA
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a Doctorate of Nurse Practice (DNP) and over a decade of experience in psychiatric care. My practice at Personal Practitioners is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals navigating life's most complex challenges. My clinical background spans a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring substance use disorders. I specialize in comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and individualized treatment planning — always tailoring care to each patient's unique needs and goals. Before my current role, I worked in high-acuity inpatient psychiatric settings, crisis stabilization, and forensic psychiatry — sharpening my skills in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and de-escalation to ensure every patient feels safe, heard, and supported. I am deeply committed to trauma-informed, whole-person care. Effective psychiatric treatment goes beyond medication — it requires a genuine therapeutic relationship rooted in trust, respect, and collaboration. Whether you are seeking help for the first time or simply looking for a provider who truly listens, I am here to partner with you. I have also been an active advocate for mental health policy at the state and national levels, contributing to perinatal and maternal mental health initiatives — and I bring that same dedication to every patient I serve. My core competencies include advanced psychiatric assessment, crisis intervention, psychotropic medication management, and evidence-based, trauma-informed care, underpinned by a lifelong commitment to improving psychiatric outcomes. I am also experienced in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams — including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. I look forward to supporting you in achieving greater mental wellness and quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Welcome — I'm so glad you're taking this step toward prioritizing your mental health. Here is what you can expect when working with me: Your first appointment will begin with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. This means we'll take the time to explore your mental health history, current symptoms, life circumstances, and personal goals. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all care — every treatment plan I develop is individualized and built around *you*. I view the provider-patient relationship as a true partnership. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to bring clinical expertise to help guide your care. Together, we will set realistic expectations, discuss all available treatment options — including medication management when appropriate — and make decisions that align with your values and preferences. Everything I do is grounded in evidence-based practice and trauma-informed principles. I understand that many people come to psychiatric care carrying significant life experiences that shape how they feel and respond. My approach is rooted in compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a deep respect for each person's story. I have extensive experience working with individuals living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring substance use disorders. I am also trained in crisis intervention and risk assessment, so if you are navigating a particularly difficult season, you can feel confident that I am equipped to support you safely and effectively. As a board-certified PMHNP with prescriptive authority, I am highly experienced in evaluating the need for psychotropic medications, initiating treatment, and carefully monitoring your response over time. I will always explain what I am prescribing, why, and what to expect — and I welcome your questions every step of the way. I look forward to getting to know you and walking alongside you on your mental health journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is structured, thoughtful, and always centered on you. Our first session is dedicated entirely to getting to know you. I will conduct a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that explores your current symptoms, mental health and medical history, medications, lifestyle, and personal goals. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and share what matters most to you. There is no rush — I want to ensure we build a strong foundation from the very start. Using the information gathered during your evaluation, I will work with you to identify a diagnosis and develop a personalized treatment plan. I take an evidence-based approach, drawing on my extensive training in advanced psychiatric assessment and diagnosis. If medication is appropriate, I will walk you through every option — what it is, how it works, potential side effects, and what to monitor. No prescription is given without your full understanding and agreement. Follow-up appointments will focus on evaluating how you are responding to treatment, making adjustments as needed, and ensuring your safety and comfort throughout the process. I monitor closely for efficacy and side effects, and I encourage open communication between visits if anything changes. I understand that mental health is not linear. If you experience a crisis or a shift in your condition between appointments, I am trained in crisis intervention and risk assessment to help you navigate those moments safely. For patients managing conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or co-occurring substance use disorders, I bring specialized experience in high-acuity care to ensure continuity and stability. Throughout our work together, I integrate trauma-informed principles and a collaborative, patient-centered philosophy. I do not simply treat symptoms — I take the time to understand the full picture of your life and well-being. My goal is to empower you with the tools, support, and care you need to thrive.
