Christine Foster, NP

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
CO
Hello there! Thank you for stopping by my profile. I hope we get to meet each other in the near future. I am here to support those experiencing depressive, anxious, bipolar/mood spectrum, psychotic, trauma-based (PTSD), domestic violence, obsessive-compulsive (OCD), grief-based, ethnic/cultural, sleep/insomnia, alcohol-related, panic, traumatic brain injury (TBI), eating and body image, LGBTQIA+ transgender body dysmorphia, phobias, and postpartum depression disorders. With over 12 years of experience in nursing and now as a psychiatric prescriber, I feel capable and grounded in my ability to be of great service to those navigating these challenges. Having worked as both an ICU nurse and a psychiatric nurse in an acute facility, I am able to consider a variety of chronic medical illnesses alongside psychiatric ones. I am also invested in discussing patients' relationships to food, movement, and healthy body image. Much of my work revolves around caring for those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), whether acute or chronic, which brings me great joy. I aspire to create a calm, gentle, and kind therapeutic space for everyone I work with, always offering choices rather than directives. Choice and control are so important after having precious agency taken away through traumatic experiences. I am honored to work with those who have experienced systems of oppression, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. I strive to be a safe advocate for all marginalized communities and remain open to learning. If this message speaks to you-whether you have a verifiable mental health diagnosis or just hints of one-and you want to change your life to feel more stable, joyful, and well, please reach out! I look forward to hearing from you! -Christine

What should a new client know about working with you?

Your story and your aspirations are my guiding star. I want to truly listen to your history, present, and pain points so that we can create a healing plan together. I am holistic in my approach - I want to review any documents and assessments you may have, I want to connect with other team members in your world that matter to you (if you want me to!), and I want to know what you have in mind for your mental health, then build from here. YOUR Voice is incredibly important to me. My treatment approach will reflect you - not just be a generic, textbook type of treatment plan! I'm excited and eager to work with you to make your healing goals a reality.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I do all Telehealth/Remote Appointments. 1. Your first Psychiatric Evaluation with Medication Management will be our first touchpoint. During this, I'll do a thorough assessment of your goals, your current mental health symptoms, your historical mental health journey, historical or current psychiatric medications, note which mental health surveys I will want to send you, briefly explore co-existing physical ailments and history, and ask you about your life history. I'll also order Laboratory Tests to check your thyroid, iron level, and any medication levels. Sound like a lot in 60 minutes? It is! But you can also decline to answer certain questions during this first appointment if it's too much. While I have an overview of what I typically ask in a first appointment, it's also all your time - and I'll make sure to be kind and listen if we need to take it more slowly. Then you can either opt to start a medicine(s) or not start a medicine after this first appointment. We go at YOUR pace! You will never be asked to commit to a treatment plan that does not work for you. 2. Follow Up Appointments are 50 or 25 minutes long. During these appointments, we'll review how any new medicines are doing as far as your mental and physical wellbeing. (No side effects will be allowed! #WeDontDoZombies) I do offer general therapeutic support and psychoeducation throughout. Controlled Substances + ADHD: There is a Nationwide shortage of controlled substances like Adderall. I am also VERY conservative when it comes to prescribing these medications. As such, if you do have attention or concentration concerns, I will explore Non-Stimulant ADHD medication(s) or antidepressant medications that also serve to assist with focus instead of controlled substances. Relatedly, I do not prescribe benzodiazepines. If you come to me on these, I am happy to work with you to get off of these medicine(s). Otherwise there are so many other wonderful options! We'll make it happen!

Insurance can be convoluted! You may have your Copay for a "Specialist" on your Insurance Card, and if so, this is how much your session with us will be. If you have a Deductible listed, you may need to pay down your Deductible before you have a smaller copay - which will mean you'll be responsible for the full amount of your visit. We can let you know what your Deductible is, how much is left, and what to expect cost-wise for your appointments with us. Go team!
