Clarissa Obembe, CCC - SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist
CA
Hi! I'm Clarissa. I graduated from Howard University with my Master of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in May 2015. After completing my clinical fellowship year, I became a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) in June 2016. I decided to become an SLP after being introduced to speech pathology while I was in high school while caring for a child with autism. I have been passionate about speech pathology ever since. I would describe my clinical style and approach as client- and family-centered. I believe in working as a team with families and other disciplines to treat the client holistically. I pride myself in making sure that my therapy sessions are individualized and functional for each client I treat. I have worked in settings such as public schools, home health, private therapy clinics, and universities. While working at Gallaudet University, I supervised graduate students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders department and taught a course on articulation and speech sound disorders. I am certified in the following: Hanen, LAMP Words for Life, PESL Accent Modification, and Unity Language System. In addition, I have experience with low- and high-tech AAC devices. I believe in this field that we are constantly learning. I take trainings in different disorder areas in an effort to learn about new techniques and approaches to better help my clients.
