**Please note that I am private pay only. I do not take insurance.** My journey is what prompted my desire to dedicate my professional life to helping others have a better experience in their lives, whatever this may mean in their journey. As a child, I was intrigued by the realization that being successful (at work, school, sports, socially, or financially) didn’t always go hand in hand with happiness and fulfillment. Even though happiness and inner peace seemed major goals for many, a distressingly large number of people appeared unfulfilled or weighed down by life itself. This gap between our deepest desires and the experience of many kindled my desire to know more about the human psyche—mind, body, and soul—and the process of helping oneself, and others, to live a more authentic, fulfilling life. My aspiration was to delve into our complexities as human beings to better understand how to live life authentically and fulfillingly, granting us peace when we look back. Becoming a psychologist suited me perfectly. I earned my Bachelor’s from Southern Connecticut State University, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University. I completed a fellowship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, which further shaped my clinical skills and understanding. I have worked with teens and adults from many walks of life, each with different desires, needs, and goals for therapy. Yet, underlying these differences is generally one shared pursuit—to ease pain and suffering and find a meaningful path toward healing and well-being. And here I am—after a long journey, feeling confident and optimistic about the possibilities psychotherapy offers to individuals, perhaps like yourself, who are invested in their well-being and willing to give this potentially transformative experience a chance.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Distressing symptoms of anxiety or depression are among the most common reasons people seek therapy. Our genetic predisposition and our circumstances—as well as our experience of external events—have an impact on how we feel. Also, for some of us, the experience of complex or acute trauma triggers a wide range of psychological symptoms that we are left to deal with. Oftentimes who we truly are, our “true self,” gets buried under the many layers of pressure that we feel to be the person others want us to be. We may, unconsciously perhaps, try to adapt to advice from well-meaning others. The problem, however, is that those well-intentioned ideas may not align with who you are. For some of us this brings about a sense of stagnation and decreased hope that may lead to feelings of depression or anxiety. We all go through challenges in life. There may be times, depending on our personality, our life experiences, and the severity of the matter, that we have a more difficult time adapting or bouncing back. Whether your feelings of depression or anxiety are a reaction to a specific event, such as a loss, or the pressure you feel, or they are an emotional “place” that you find yourself in more and more often, therapy can provide a pathway to better understand and effectively manage your symptoms of anxiety or depression. As a clinician, I view the therapeutic relationship as the key element of transformation in this unique journey of psychotherapy. The context of the therapeutic relationship aims to provide a secure base, facilitating an honest exploration of your own truths, a process needed for lasting growth and/or change to occur. My passion for helping alleviate the pain and suffering that anxiety can bring, coupled with my experience helping individuals find meaningful, lasting relief give me the confidence to hold a new vision for you while we work toward the fulfillment of your therapeutic goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

**Please note that I am private pay only. I do not take insurance ** This is the process in my work with patients-- After you book an appointment through Zocdoc, I will reach out to you to confirm the appointment and to send you the paperwork that needs to be signed before the first appointment. I will provide you with a link where you can complete all the paperwork online. Completing the paperwork usually takes for my patients about 15 minutes. The first session is called an intake session, where I will learn about you, your experiences, your needs, and the reasons you are interested in therapy. If after this session we both feel we are a good fit to work together, then we can decide to do therapy together. I see patients weekly for 50 minutes. My fee is the same for the intake and for the regular therapy hour. If for whatever reason we realize we are not the best fit to work together in therapy, I try to assist patients by providing referrals. If the patient is under 18 years of age, parents should be present during the first intake session. After that intake session, if we decide to work together I meet weekly with the teen (or preteen) and then from time to time we meet all together again (parents, patient, and myself) so that the patient and I can share with the parents the progress we have made, answer any questions, etc.
