What should a new client know about working with you?

C. Beth Keeney is a dual certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate care that is driven by the needs of the individual. She is currently based in Central Texas and serves patients primarily through a telehealth platform. Beth dedicated the first twelve years of her career to women’s health services as a labor and delivery nurse, then decided to pursue her family nurse practitioner degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She then began working in the Student Health Center at Texas State University where she broadened her skills as a mental health practitioner and worked closely with the LGBTQIA+ community as a member of the Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy team. This experience sparked Beth’s interest to explore non-traditional treatments for mental health, such as ketamine therapy, which she provided for patients at a clinic in Austin, Texas. Her passion for mental healthcare then led her to pursue her psychiatric mental health NP certification from New Mexico State University. Beth incorporates a holistic approach into her practice, helping others to explore and connect with their truest selves. She enjoys teaching patients about cultivating wellness in their lives and providing them with means toward self-empowerment. She is experienced in treating various mental health diagnoses through both traditional and non-traditional methods. Beth is excited to be a part of the team at Head Well and is proud to provide her services to the community.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

People seek new psychiatric providers for a variety of reasons, but regardless of the impetus, the process can be challenging and anxiety-provoking. You should be congratulated for taking the steps to care for yourself properly! If you chose to move forward with our practice, after requesting a new patient appointment, someone from our office will reach out to verify your insurance and/or payment information. You will receive several forms and consents. These must be completed prior to your appointment. Please note, we will not be able to move forward with the appointment without receiving this information in a timely manner. The information will help structure your comprehensive evaluation. During our first meeting, we will discuss your psychiatric history and symptoms and other aspects of your life like your work, routines, diet, relationships, and physical activity. Short, validated self-assessments will be used to help track progress. If interested, personality assessment can be incorporated which may provide insight into patterns and issues helping to guide our path forward. We will establish long- and short-term goals and build a holistic plan for achieving those goals which may include traditional psychiatric medication, supplements, and supportive wellness interventions/practices. Typically, we will follow up in 2-4 weeks to assess progress and adjust and realign our path forward. As we gain better control of symptoms and you start to feel better, we will incorporate more lifestyle and behavioral interventions to maximize the benefits of treatment, support lasting change, and optimize wellness. Along the way, appointments will become less frequent, possibly every 3 or 6 months, depending on the type of treatment.
