Getting to know Courtney Tafoya
I am an experienced board-certified Family Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Walden University. I began my nursing career two decades ago, earning an Associate's degree from Davis & Elkins College and a Bachelor's from Fairmont State University. My early work as a cardiac/critical care nurse laid a strong clinical foundation. After several years, I transitioned to working with Veterans at the VA hospital, where I developed a passion for helping patients with mental illness, PTSD/trauma, and substance use. I provide care for individuals ages 10 and up, using a combination of medication and holistic approaches in treatment.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I feel I can increase access to mental health and addiction services in the community and help individuals achieve and maintain optimal mental health. I offer in-person and virtual visits.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
When seeing a new client, I want the process as easy as possible. Seeking treatment can be overwhelming and I want to eliminate some of that stress. The relationship between a provider and client is a true collaboration, and the needs of the client must be a priority.

After loosing my primary care physician and having a new provider who isn’t comfortable prescribing anti-anxiety meds for travel anxiety, I decided to try Zocdoc for the first time. Besides that, This was also my first time seeking treatment for my ADHD that I’ve struggled with for over 30 years. Courtney was easy to speak with. She asked questions and truly listened to me. She made me feel comfortable and safe to share my thoughts, feelings and experiences, and I never once felt ashamed or embarrassed. She explained the treatment plan, gave backup plans and made sure I knew how to contact her outside the app if I had any issues. I highly recommend her!
