Getting to know Dr. Cyndia Choi

**THIS PROVIDER DOES NOT TREAT ADHDH** Dr. Cyndia Choi has been board certified in psychiatry since 1991 and has 30 years of experience treating a diverse population of cultures, LGBTQ issues, and different age groups from young adults to seniors. She currently practices at Talkiatry. After attending Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore for her bachelor’s degree, Dr. Choi received her medical degree from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Rutgers Medical School. She went on to complete a general medical internship at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and then her Psychiatric residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Choi has treated patients who have had a broad spectrum of diagnoses including major depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic and anxiety, and addiction. Although the majority of her work has been in outpatient care, Dr. Choi has worked in emergency settings, inpatient units, and as a consultation-liaison to medical units. She has also enjoyed the honor of working with US military veterans. Dr. Choi’s specialty is medication management, however, she believes that a therapeutic relationship is crucial to treatment. Dr. Choi values the privilege of getting to know each patient personally to develop a patient-centered plan of care. Typical follow-up appointments with Dr. Choi are 30 minutes in length to check on the effects of the medication and for supportive therapy. If she believes that you may benefit from more in-depth therapy, she may recommend adding a therapist to your treatment team. Dr. Choi also believes in a holistic approach toward helping you achieve a healthy and fulfilling quality of life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Cyndia Choi practices at Talkiatry, a patient-centered, online psychiatry practice. Talkiatry providers specialize in medication management and treat a wide range of mental health conditions. They take a personalized approach to care, ensuring that treatment is rooted in a strong patient-provider relationship and a responsible, evidence-based approach to prescribing. We know that every mental health journey is unique, and we’re here to make yours feel manageable and supported at every step.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a comprehensive first visit, where you and your provider will discuss your goals, medical history, and what brings you to treatment. From there, you’ll work with your provider to create a care plan that feels right for you, which may include medication, therapy, or both. If your provider recommends medication, they’ll walk you through your options—our goal is always to help you make informed choices about your care. You’ll meet with your provider regularly for follow-up visits to check in, adjust your care as needed, and make sure you feel supported in your journey.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

This is the 2nd time my appointment was cancelled without being notified. I got a verification that my appointment was scheduled and insurance accepted and in network. After not a receiving a call at the scheduled time I then called the number and they told me they cancelled because this provider did not accept my insurance. This is very upsetting and I will not use your company again

This psychiatrist very attent?i psychiatrist is very attentive at listening to client and her responses verbal communication is always accurate, on point to what is being discussed, at that moment. Very medically knowledgeable and always asking the appropriate questions. She is so pleasant to talk to, conversation is easy flowing, not difficult, stiff and too formal. The time went by so fast, up to the end of our session!! You can tell she is a very experienced Psychiatrist. Furthermore, she also gives excellent recommendations. AS A REGISTERED RN, HANDS DOWN, I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PSYCHIATRIST!!!!!!!

She said she wouldn't take me on in the first few minutes and suggested I go to a LGBT clinic. I found that to be really insulting. I don't think I should have been charged.

The doctor said, and referred to me as, “you kind of people”, and said she wouldn’t treat me. Super disrespectful and a TERRIBLE listener. Literally heard what she wanted to, if anything at all. Wouldn’t recommend this lady to a person in an active suicide attempt.

Very helpful professional. Spoke with me extensively and genuinely caring. First psychiatric professional who asked me for a blood test in order to monitor my physical state while being on medication. Seemed genuinely caring.
