About Dr. Cynthia Leung

Dr. Cynthia Leung was born and raised in the Bay Area. She completed both her medical school and internal medicine residency training at Stanford. After completing her Residency, she participated in the Master’s Program for Clinical Epidemiology and received her MS degree in 2006. Dr. Leung then went on to complete her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Stanford University Medical Center.
During her Gastroenterology fellowship, Dr. Leung was involved in research exploring colonoscopy techniques and GI imaging. As a result, she has prolific knowledge in cutting edge technologies. In her time at Stanford University, Dr. Leung received several awards including the Department of Internal Medicine Housestaff Award for Professionalism.
Accompanying her educational accomplishments is a wide variety of interests, especially noted are photography, travel and Spanish language.

I was dealing with a stomach issue where literally everything I ate or drank besides water upset my stomach. Dr. Leung had no bedside manner to speak of. She asked a few questions about my symptoms, ordered about 15 different lab tests, barely answered the questions I had about lifestyle/diet during the diagnosis process, and rushed me out of the office.
All the tests she ordered came back negative, and all I got was a message from her in the patient portal saying that they were negative - no following up with me, no recommendations for where to go from there, no prompting for me to come back in for another appointment. I sought a different doctor after that.
If you are looking for an engaged doctor who is invested in your health and finding solutions to your GI issues, look elsewhere.
The one positive part of my experience was the office staff - I was called in close to on time, and the admins were friendly, helpful, and responsive when I was arranging lab work following the appointment.

Dr. Leung is a very knowledgeable, caring, and thorough physician. My previous GI doctor wouldn't listen to my symptoms, so it's so nice to have a GI doctor (Leung) that is actually willing to listen and eager to help me. I am excited for my doctor/ patient relationship with Dr. Leung.

Even though I was near fifteen minutes late to my appointment, she still had time to see me quickly before her next appointment, and right off-the-bat I felt like Dr. Leung knew her stuff and genuinely cared about finding a solution to my health issues.
She set me up with some options and tests to take, and I truly felt like a health issue, that was plagued me for some time, might finally be resolved!
For any Gastro issues in the future, I don't think I'll be booking an appointment with anyone else!

I showed up for a gastro consultation with Cynthia in severe pain within hours of leaving the ER due to a severe colon infection as the hospital staff had told me they couldn't do anything to handle specific tummy issues. Not only was Cynthia professional, calm, cool and collected with answering questions, she directed me back to another ER close by immediately and took the time to make sure that the ER staff was aware of my situation upon arrival, saving further stress and pain during an extremely stressful time. She also took the time to reach out to her colleague at the hospital to ensure that he checked in on me during my hospitalization this past weekend. I am extremely impressed with, and grateful to, Cynthia, and highly recommend her and the Redwood City office for gastro matters.
