Getting to know Cynthia Ononobi

I am a Master’s-prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in psychiatric and mental health nursing, and I have a strong clinical background in both behavioral health and primary care. I am committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered in their care. My approach is holistic and patient-centered, focusing on understanding each individual’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals. I work collaboratively with patients to develop personalized treatment plans that promote healing, resilience, and long-term well-being. I look forward to partnering with you on your mental health journey and supporting you every step of the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I strive to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Your story matters, and you will be listened to with empathy and professionalism. Mental health care is a collaborative process, and I view you as an active partner in your treatment rather than a passive recipient of care. My approach is evidence-based and holistic, meaning I consider biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors when developing your treatment plan. When medication is part of care, I take time to explain options, benefits, risks, and side effects so you can make informed decisions. If therapy, lifestyle changes, or community resources are appropriate, these will also be discussed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a PMHNP, my typical process begins with a comprehensive psychiatric assessment to understand your symptoms, history, strengths, and goals. Together, we develop an individualized, evidence-based treatment plan, which may include medication management, brief therapeutic interventions, lifestyle recommendations, and referrals when needed. I emphasize shared decision-making, ensuring you understand all options and feel comfortable with the plan. Follow-up visits focus on monitoring progress, adjusting treatment, managing side effects, and addressing new concerns. Throughout care, I provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment, encourage open communication, and support continuity of care to promote long-term mental health and well-being.
