Getting to know Damaris Johnson

Hi, I'm Damaris Johnson! I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I specialize in treating individuals, premarital couples and new moms. As a graduate of Mercer University School of Medicine with a Masters degree in Family Therapy, I am currently serving as the Clinical Director at The Walk of Life Counseling Center. Additionally, I am a Prepare-Enrich Facilitator as well as a Certified Trainer for counselors in the community who seek to provide premarital/marital counseling. Assisting new mothers and premarital couples is very important to me; I offer concierge services outside of normal business hours when available. Pre-Married Couples: I believe true love exists, but I am a firm believer that it takes work and preparation. We invest a lot into weddings, but not nearly as much preparing for the actual marriage. I work with couples by getting to the root of the differences and increasing the emotional connection between the two of you. I am also Prepare/Enrich Certified. New Mothers: How many times have you asked, "When will I start feeling like my old self?". If you find yourself struggling with feelings of sadness, loss of motivation or questioning your motherly abilities- I want to help you. This season is a beautiful time in your family's life. In order to be the best version of yourself, you must prioritize you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am licensed in both Georgia and South Dakota. I provide both in person and virtual appointments (virtual only for SD patients).

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I am client centered and our first appointment will be spent learning your story and what your goals are for therapy. I am a fan of 'homework', so often I will assign you work to do (ex: journaling, read a book, breathing exercises etc.). My clients find that their symptoms improve in 3-5 appointments.
