Damien Beauchemin, LMFT

Damien Beauchemin, LMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
CA
For over a decade, I've supported a variety of clients from different backgrounds and communities. I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Cal Poly Humboldt, which has equipped me with the skills to provide compassionate and effective care. I have firsthand experience with the foster care system and am a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I'm also a giant nerd and love many of the quirky and weird things that members on the fringe of culture hold close to their hearts. I bring a lot of humor into my sessions because sometimes you need to be able to laugh at the dark to take the sting away. I love working with clients who share similar backgrounds or anyone who can look on the brighter side—or at least appreciate the irony that comes with life on this odd little world.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is collaborative with the client I like to have an open dialogue and to make sure people are comfortable and sharing their authentic self. I like to be approachable as opposed to being an expert pronouncing theory. I try to focus on the future and how a client can make changes and choices that improve their life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our initial session, we will dive into your background, and from that day forward I try to focus on changes in the here and now and for the future. We will break down why a person might feel a certain way, examine doubts and alternative thoughts, break down when what, and why's of their life, and generally work on a series of goals that are relevant to the client until we feel those goals are met.
