Patient reviews for Dr. Dana Shaw
Dr. Shaw is a godsend. I’ve been going from psychiatrist to psychiatrist since I was 13 and never have I found someone who cares so much about me and my mental health. It’s so rare to find a psych who isn’t just in it for the money and the super quick “just write prescriptions” session. Dr. Shaw is warm and wonderful and actually takes the full appointment time (45 minutes) to talk to me about what is going on in my life and how it affects the dosages of my meds. I never thought I would say this about my psychiatrist because of all the bad experiences prior to Dr. Shaw, but she has played an enormous part in saving my life. She is someone you know you can trust and is incredibly easy to talk to. I feel more comfortable with her than anyone else—it feels like talking to a close mother-figure I’ve never had. If you’re lucky enough to be able to schedule an appointment with her, DO NOT WAIT!!
Awful experience. Prescribed me psychiatric meds and then wouldn’t fill the prescription on time. I would have massive symptoms from not having my meds, and yet she would still take days to respond to emails. She had me come in and talk to me for 5 minutes multiple time, so it felt like she was just trying to get more money out of me. I went in to talk to her about other treatment options, and rather than hear me out, she told me I should double my dose and then sent me to get blood work. I will never go back to her.
She was kind and very professional
The first visit was great! I will definitely be returning for my follow up and treatment.
Dr. Shaw is great. She saw me right on time, she really listened to what was going on, and opening up to her felt easy and natural.
Dr. Shaw was wonderful, helpful, and made me feel comfortable right away.
She was very professional and very easy to talk to. Listened to everything I had to say, and worked with me to determine the best follow-ups.
She doesn't seem to care about her patients. The appointments lasted literally 5-10 minutes even though I have anxiety. Shouldn't psychiatrist be similar to therapist but with the ability to prescribe? She wasn't able to help talk to me about my situations at all! She also decided to suddenly cancel my prescription at the pharmacy without telling me.
Dr Shaw was great! I felt like she listened to me and wanted to know about my life and my past. She took a more thorough approach then I had experienced with other psychiatrists. I look forward to continue to working with Dr. Shaw.
Dr. Shaw never remembered me or my issues, not even over the same email thread going back two weeks. The therapy sessions lasted 5 minutes, before she prescribed drugs. I'm a very 6 patient person, but I would not recommend her services
Dr. Shaw was absolutely wonderful! She is very easy to talk to and really takes the time to get to know you and understand you.
Kind, thoughtful and honest. She listens and is very knowledgeable. Very professional. Very personable.
Dr. Shaw is patient, empathetic, and I highly recommend her. She always listened, and discussed a treatment plan with me, asking how I felt about it rather than setting it in stone without my input.
Dr. Shaw seems extremely approachable and knowledgable. I'm looking forward to seeing her on a regular basis!
I first saw Dr. Shaw a few months ago after a terrible experience with another doctor with "good" reviews that I found on ZocDoc. Dr. Shaw isn't a BAD doctor, but her bedside manner is... strange. Some of the things she says are just plain weird. She's not mean or condescending (at least not to me personally), but she WILL text throughout the appointment, and she has also answered calls during our time, as well as been typing away on her laptop during our conversations. She does seem to at least be half listening during those times... kind of in an absent-minded professor way. Not quite hearing *exactly* what you're saying. I still haven't gotten used to this, because my psychiatrist in my home state devoted his full attention to me every session for 30-60 minutes, no texts, phone calls, or interruptions from his secretary. She is helpful and does try to find alternatives to just throwing medication at you, which I definitely appreciate. And when I told her I couldn't come as often or get as many tests because I couldn't afford it, she accommodated my budget. Shopping for a psychiatrist is so tiresome and stressful; I don't want to lower my expectations, but I have been forced to. This is the only reason I keep coming here.
Since this doctor had such good ratings, I expected her to be amazing. However, she was checking her phone throughout the session. One time I was talking, and she picked up a phone call. She wouldn't explain why she was prescribing different medications to me even after I asked repeatedly. One time she told me to look on a website to find out. I didn't feel like this doctor cared for my wellbeing, instead it felt like I was a burden rather than a patient.
The space was comfortable, and Dr. Shaw was thorough and engaged.
Dr. Shaw is by far the most qualified psychiatrist I have visited. She is very thorough, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Unlike most psychiatrists, she spent a lot of time listening and talking to me. I look forward to working with her further. Would definitely recommend.
really friendly and seemed happy to see me! Made me feel very welcome and comfortable. spoke to me like a friend not a superior. Definitely recommend and can't wait to have my next appointment
Dr. Shaw was a wealth of information and I am so happy I found her! She treats the whole person and I think a physician like her is SO needed in psychiatry. I can't wait to recommend her to anyone looking for a new doc!
I finally feel I am on the road to better mental health. She cares about the individual and looks at alternatives to why a person feels the way they do, i.e. blood chemistry, vitamin levels, genetics. She is amazing!
Very attentive, caring and knowledgeable. Have been to many psychiatrists and she is the best
amazing amazing amazing - I have finally found a psychologist who not only prescribes meds, but also engages in psychotherapy! I am extremely impressed with her and the whole facility and am very excited to begin my journey with Dr Shaw.
Really pleasant to talk to and didn't feel rushed at all.
She is very kind and understanding. A gentle healer.
She is very professional, it was my first visit and she make me feel like I know her for long time. Very kind and pleasant I will continue to see her.
