Getting to know Dr. Dana Shaw

Dr. Shaw is a practitioner of Integrative and Wholistic Psychiatry, beginning her orientation to this paradigm with studies in Clinical Nutrition at Cornell (Honors graduate) and becoming a certified Yoga Instructor. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York, Buffalo, completed her Internship in Family Medicine and finished her Psychiatric Residency and Fellowship in Family and Marital Therapy at the University of Rochester. She had the privilege of studying two original wholistic models with their originators: the Biopsychosocial Model and Psychoneuroimmunology.
Dr. Shaw has taught extensively to Medical and Naturopathic students, Psychiatry Residents, and other Medical and Mental Health professionals. She has lectured on Neurotransmitter Analysis and presented at the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting.
Dr. Shaw has additionally studied and utilizes Orthomolecular Psychiatry, Nutrition, Non-Violent Communication, Mental Imagery, Endocrinology, Functional Medicine, Herbs and Nutrients, and Neurotransmitter Analysis. She blends this information with conventional medical approaches to suit the needs of each individual. Assessment is in-depth and can include very specific endocrine, neurotransmitter, and nutritional testing, as well as a detailed evaluation of potentially contributing lifestyle, psychological, medical, emotional, social, and toxic factors.

Doctor could not remember my school name during 2 back-to-back appointments on 2 adjacent weekdays. At end of 2nd appointment, I asked Doctor what they needed to complete the written diagnosis form; Doctor said they needed nothing else. I sent Doctor the form and then Doctor wrote that they needed another appointment so that "we could fill it out together." We never had that appointment as Doctor was unable to successfully perform basic appointment logistics scheduling appointment in EST vs PST. This was a massive waste of time.

Dr.Shaw listened to my concerns and gave me a treatment plan. She has a very calming manner of speaking. Even though I had difficulty with the Zoom site she talked with me on the phone . I feel much better about going forward and working with her in the future. She's a keeper.

This was my first experience with using ZocDoc to find a provider. While the listing on ZocDoc indicates a younger provider in NYC, the actual provider is in Washington, with same name but completely different background and reviews. Very confusing. Provider was approachable and appeared to be engaged in personal multi-tasking while listening to my responses to her questions. Back to looking for in-person care in my region as a result.

Was literally on her phone when we were talking (sending texts and such). Turn off your ringer next time. Kept interrupting me where I couldn't even state what I needed help with and what I wanted to talk about. Totally disrespectful and didn't even tell me why I needed the medications she was prescribing to me. Didn't even go over my concerns and overall had a negative tone towards me acting like I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about... I was talking about my own behaviors and feelings. I think I know whether I feel sad or not ma'am. Also please be more respectful towards other providers because my other doctor also if not more so knows what she's doing in terms of helping me.

She will take advantage of you when you are not in the right state of mind and charge excessive fees. She kept switching my medication and not telling me how to properly take it resulting in being extremely sick and passing out. Do not trust when they say they take your insurance. And instead of working out a payment plan and discussing the charges they will just charge your credit card. I am on disability and can not afford these charges.
