Daniel Pecan, RN

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NY
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with six years of experience providing outpatient psychiatric care to adults. My approach is collaborative, practical, and individualized, with an emphasis on understanding the whole person rather than simply treating symptoms. I work with patients experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, stress, and other common mental health conditions. I believe effective treatment starts with listening carefully, developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and working together to create a treatment plan that fits each patient’s goals and circumstances. My goal is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care in a comfortable and nonjudgmental environment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a whole-person approach to psychiatric medication management. That means I want to understand your life, not just your symptoms. I'll always explain my clinical thinking and I want to hear yours — you know yourself better than any chart does. My style is direct and conversational, and I try to make what can feel like an intimidating process feel straightforward. A free 15-minute telephone consultation is offered before scheduling your first appointment. This allows us both to get an idea of if we're a good fit. Your first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation — a chance for us to get to know each other and for me to understand your history, your current concerns, and what's brought you to this point. It's also an opportunity for both of us to determine whether we're a good fit. The initial visit is an assessment, not a guarantee of ongoing treatment or prescription. If we decide to move forward together, you'll leave with a clear sense of next steps and plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My practice focuses on evidence-based psychiatric medication management integrated with supportive counseling and cognitive-behavioral strategies. Patients needing intensive weekly psychotherapy may benefit from working with a dedicated therapist in conjunction with medication management.
