About Dr. Daniel Stein

Daniel M. Stein, MD, MHS is an Assistant Professor of Reconstructive Urology, and specializes in many areas of Reconstructive Urology including the treatment of urethral stricture disease, urethral injury, hypospadias, fistula, as well as ureteral, bladder, and genital/groin scarring from traumatic injury, hidradenitis, radiation and other causes. He additionally specializes in neurogenic bladder secondary to neurologic disorders such as spinal cord injuries, myelomeningocele, and multiple sclerosis as well as male urinary incontinence.
Dr. Stein earned his bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from UCLA and a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health focusing in international disease control. In addition to his academic training, he completed research on access to medical therapy in South Africa and a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Stein attended the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed his residency in Urology at Northwestern School of Medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Stein completed a fellowship in Genitourinary Reconstruction and Trauma at the Detroit Medical Center during which time he gained experience in traumatic urologic injury, as well as reconstructive treatment of the urethra, ureter, bladder, genitalia and groin due to a wide variety of causes.
Dr. Stein has published widely in the areas of urologic reconstruction, epidemiology and health-related quality of life. His research interests include quality of life assessment, questionnaire design and implementation within reconstructive urology and urinary incontinence. He is a member of the America Urological Association

Doctor Stein was very knowledgable and professional. He did not rush through the appointment and was very engaging. He tolerated a lot of pushback through our conversation, when he did not have to, in order to try and find out what a problem was.

Dr. Stein was a true professional who took his time to explain his recommendations, a very friendly manner and had great communication skills. Dr. Stein was on time for the appointment and we never felt rushed during our time with him. Dr. Stein also discussed topics we had not thought about, very comprehensive list of items to discuss. my wife and I thought this was an outstanding appointment, our first time visit seeking a second opinion on a fistula issue.

I was seen immediately (except for the Lab work wait, where I got to see part of Ellen show for only 2nd time in my career. No wonder everyone loves her!)
EVERYONE at the facility was extremely professional and helpful and kind.
Dr. Stein listened to all of my concerns, and took into account my own experience with my symptoms and my history. Although he did of course order all the necessary tests, he didn't disregard my own report, which I totally appreciate.
