Getting to know Danielle Cook
I believe everyone deserves mental health care that feels personal, compassionate, and free of judgment. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely heard and supported not rushed, dismissed, or reduced to a diagnosis.
Before becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I worked as a registered nurse in behavioral health and correctional settings. Those experiences gave me the opportunity to care for people from many different backgrounds and walks of life. They also taught me the importance of meeting people where they are and remembering that there is always a person and a story behind the symptoms they are experiencing.
Outside of my professional role, I am a wife and a mom of four. My husband is retired from the military, so our family understands many of the demands that can come with military life, raising a family, balancing careers and responsibilities, navigating major transitions, and trying to manage the stress of everyday life. These experiences have shaped the compassion, understanding, and practical perspective I bring to my work with clients.
I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma-related symptoms, substance use disorders, addiction, and other mental health concerns. I understand that mental health and substance use often overlap, and I approach both with compassion and without judgment. Recovery and mental wellness look different for everyone, and I believe treatment should reflect the individual not just the diagnosis.
I view treatment as a partnership. Medication can be an important tool, but it is only one part of the bigger picture. I also want to understand your lifestyle, relationships, stressors, experiences, strengths, and goals. Together, we will work toward a treatment plan that is clinically appropriate, realistic for your life, and focused on what matters most to you.
What should a new client know about working with you?
You can expect me to be approachable, straightforward, compassionate, and genuinely interested in getting to know you as a person. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, telling me when something isn’t working, and being honest—even when what you’re going through feels complicated or difficult to talk about.
I don’t believe mental health treatment should be something that simply happens to you. I want you to be an active part of your care. I’ll explain treatment options, answer your questions, and work with you to develop a plan that fits your individual needs and goals.
Most importantly, my office is a judgment-free space. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, trauma, substance use or recovery, or you simply know that you haven’t been feeling like yourself lately, you don’t need to show up with the perfect words or know exactly what you need.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
Our first appointment is about getting to know the whole picture—not just checking off a list of symptoms. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you’ve been experiencing, your medical and mental health history, medications or treatments you’ve tried in the past, sleep, relationships, work or school, substance use when applicable, current stressors, and what you would like to see change or improve.
From there, we’ll discuss my recommendations and create a treatment plan together. When medication is appropriate, I’ll explain your options, expected benefits, possible side effects, and alternatives so that you can make an informed decision and feel comfortable with your treatment.
At follow-up appointments, we’ll check in on how you’re feeling, what’s improving, what isn’t, how you’re tolerating treatment, and whether anything needs to be adjusted. Treatment is not one-size-fits-all, and your plan can evolve as your symptoms, circumstances, and goals change.
My goal is not simply to treat a diagnosis or prescribe a medication. It’s to understand the person sitting in front of me and help you feel more like yourself again.
