Darcy Leon is an experienced, board-certified nurse practitioner with a background helping adult clients and their families heal from a variety of mental health issues. She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Columbia University. Darcy believes that good communication between herself and her clients improves outcomes, a principle confirmed through her clinical practice. As a nurse practitioner, she takes a whole-person approach to treatment and promotes wellness in all areas of her clients' lives.
Her main focus as a provider is psychopharmacology (medications). Darcy is passionate about educating her clients about their medications and works diligently to help them find treatments that work best for them individually. She stays current on new research, is active in pharmacology organizations and publications, and gladly answers any questions her clients have about their medications. In most cases, she finds that people benefit from psychotherapy alongside medication to more fully achieve their goals.
Darcy's primary areas of expertise include major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, ADHD, and OCD. She also has experience treating the psychiatric complications of traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and PTSD. While she has treated many other illnesses, she welcomes new clients seeking her care.
Darcy is board certified in the state of New York. Recently, she worked in outpatient mental health services at St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester and served as a psychiatric consultant on the TBI and stroke units at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Before her healthcare career, she was a classical bassoonist, reflecting her lifelong passion for music.

I've never had a psychiatrist who was knowledgeable, kind, and attentive to my needs and comfort levels as a patient. Dr. Leon listens to my needs and is very clear about my responsibilities. She does not overdose her patients and has a very gentle but honest approach to her work. Highly recommended.
