Dr. Chessin joined Manhattan Surgical Associates in July of 2008. As a clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, he brings with him expertise and advanced training in Colon and Rectal Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, and Benign Anorectal Disease. In addition, he has a wide range of research interests to further enhance the care we provide to our patients.
In 1992, Dr. Chessin matriculated at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where he was elected into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. During his undergraduate years, Dr. Chessin became interested in becoming a Surgeon. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1996 with Departmental Honors following completion of an intensive basic science thesis. In 1996, Dr. Chessin began medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. While in medical school, he was elected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. He graduated from medical school in 2000 and began his Internship in General Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City in July 2000. Dr. Chessin completed his first three years of Residency in General Surgery at Mount Sinai and then took a position as a Clinical Research Fellow on the Colorectal Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in June 2003. While at Sloan-Kettering, Dr. Chessin published over 15 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 5 book chapters covering various topics in Colon and Rectal Cancer. He also presented his research at multiple National and International Medical Conferences and received awards from the New York Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons twice.
