David Hoover, ALMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
25 E Washington St, Ste 1021, Chicago, IL
Dave is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with men, couples, and families navigating the unique challenges of modern life. His clinical interests include identity exploration, grief, major life transitions, career struggles, and relational challenges. Dave is especially passionate about supporting clients as they move through seasons of change and redefine who they are within their relationships and communities. Dave has trained extensively in Narrative Therapy and Relational Life Therapy (RLT). He believes deeply in the power of perspective to shape lived experience and works collaboratively with clients to identify and shift patterns that no longer serve them. Drawing from RLT’s direct and relational framework, he helps clients access strengths and resources that may have previously gone unnoticed, while fostering accountability, growth, and meaningful connection. Clients experience Dave as gentle, steady, and encouraging. He prioritizes creating a psychologically safe environment where individuals and couples can engage honestly with discomfort, grief, and transition. His years of experience as a spouse, parent, and business leader inform his work and provide practical understanding of the complexities clients face in relationships, family life, and career development. Dave earned his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. He is currently working toward certification as a Relational Life Therapy (RLT) Certified Therapist through the Relational Life Institute. Prior to returning to the field of psychotherapy, Dave spent decades in software engineering and business leadership, authoring books and speaking internationally. As a longtime partner, parent, and step-parent, he brings lived appreciation for the complexity, effort, and growth that strong relationships require—perspective that continues to inform his grounded, real-world approach to relational work.
