Getting to know Dr. David Inwood

I am an experienced, board-certified Adult, Adolescent, and Child Psychiatrist. I am a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at New York University Medical Center. I am licensed to treat patients in the states of New York and Florida In-person and on Telemedicine as indicated. I am experienced and friendly in treating individuals and families with children. My practice is inclusive and welcoming of persons of all sexual orientations, identities, and diverse ethnic background. I provide integrated psychotherapy and medical management and refer to colleagues as indicated. I treat patients across the lifespan who are experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorders, mood disorders, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism, Asperger's, and Intellectual Disabilities. I also have special expertise in postpartum psychiatric disorders and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders (OCD). I do not participate in insurance plans. When I treat Medicare eligible patients, I charged them the allowable Medicare rates, and I file those claims electronically. For other patients who have Out-of-Network benefits I complete the insurance forms so that the person can receive the benefits that they are eligible for. I completed medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara Facultad de Medicina, followed by Residency in Adult Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Child Psychiatry at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take a comprehensive and thoughtful approach to each patient. This includes detailed psychiatric evaluations, ongoing psychotherapy, and careful medication management when indicated. I often recommend genetic testing to guide medication decisions, particularly in identifying how a patient metabolizes certain medications. I believe in educating my patients with reliable, up-to-date literature, so they are fully informed partners in their treatment. You can expect a comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic assessment, a practical and personalized treatment plan, and prescriptions, if indicated. I also provide patients with clear and helpful educational materials so they can better understand their condition and treatment options. I maintain two offices: In Brooklyn, New York, my office is very accessible via subway and bus, just a short walk from major public transit. In South Florida (covering the area from Fort Lauderdale to Delray), my office is conveniently located near public bus routes.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I do comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic assessments and treatment. I do both verbal psychotherapy and full session medication management (not brief sessions) I have a developmental life cycle perspective approach to treatment. I personally prefer to speak with new patients before scheduling to ensure we are the right fit. I generally conduct initial evaluations in person, as they provide a more thorough understanding of your concerns and allow involvement of family or significant others when appropriate.

I do not participate in insurance plans. I can see Medicare eligible patients and I will charge them Medicare rates. I am happy to complete all necessary medical forms so you may seek reimbursement from your insurance provider. For Medicare-eligible patients, I am not a Medicare participant, but I charge the approved Medicare fees. Patients pay upfront and seek reimbursement directly.

Doctor is a no show, calls are not answered.

I waited online for 30 minutes and Inwood did not show up. An hour after the appointment time, he called and showed no consideration for not having attended the appointment or for disregarding my time. I have recently been laid off and lost my insurance, so when I booked the appointment I asked for someone to contact me beforehand to let me know about pricing since he does not have it listed on his profile. His tone can be described as nothing other than pompous, when he simply said, "How much do you think a guy like me charges?" So many things wrong with this. This was an abhorrent and supremely arrogant way to speak to anyone, let alone a patient and someone who is evidently contacting you about current struggles with their mental health. His behavior was not only mind-bendingly rude, but frankly dangerous. With many other empathetic and genuine providers surely out there, I feel that I must let people know to absolutely avoid Inwood.

Rude and unfriendly. Cut my video call short and seemed to have family member / friend in the background. I will definitely not book a follow-up with him again. Unprofessional.

Thoughtful, appropriate & helpful blend of advice, listening, and attention to both cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychiatric medical needs. First rate doctor in every sense.
I think the enviornmental atmosphere is very conucive in helping me relax. Dr. Inwood treats (ME) you - speaks with you LISTENS to you and underSTANDS you. Medically, legally I am his pt. and therefore he heals and advises. But he speaks to me as a person - so therefore I am being PERSONALLY cared for - and this is important with panic & anxiety issues
