About Dr. David Schwarzbaum
As a gastroenterologist at NYU Langone, I am committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. Listening carefully—not only to my patients’ symptoms but also to how these symptoms affect their daily lives is central to my practice. By understanding each patient's unique experience, I develop personalized diagnostic and treatment plans tailored to their specific needs, goals, and preferences.
I was drawn to gastroenterology because of its broad scope of practice, which allows me to care for patients with a wide variety of conditions. I provide both immediate diagnosis and treatment of acute problems as well as long-term management of chronic diseases. I greatly value combining clinical insight with endoscopic procedures to diagnose, treat, and prevent gastrointestinal disorders.
My clinical expertise encompasses the evaluation and management of a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including colorectal cancer screening and prevention, abdominal pain, reflux, liver disorders, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and disorders of gut-brain interaction. I also offer comprehensive care for other digestive health concerns using the latest evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. As medicine advances, I thoughtfully incorporate emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, when clinically appropriate, to supplement clinical knowledge, enhance diagnostics, and deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.
I strongly believes in fostering a partnership with my patients. I carefully explain medical conditions, diagnostic testing, and treatment options in clear, understandable language to ensure patients feel informed and empowered. Together, I work with patients to develop treatment plans that are well understood, agreed upon, and confidently followed. My goal is to ensure that every patient feels heard, respected, and informed throughout their care journey.
