Getting to know Dr. David Shaw

I’m an anxiety specialist with a PhD from Texas Tech University, but I’m way more interested in the person behind the symptoms than just a diagnosis. I love helping people get back in the driver's seat by figuring out exactly which beliefs are fueling their anxiety and then teaching the practical strategies needed to change them. Basically, we’ll work together to swap out those old, uncomfortable patterns for new habits that actually bring you some relief and help you understand how your mind works.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you enter my practice, I prioritize getting to know you as a whole person, not just the symptoms you are facing. I believe there is no "one-size-fits-all" approach to healing, so I take pride in tailoring my evidence-based treatments to leverage your unique individual strengths. Our work extends far beyond our time together; I frequently assign therapeutic homework to help you chronicle your experiences and practice the skills needed to overcome anxiety and negative thinking patterns. I find that I am most effective when I can be myself, so I work best with clients who appreciate a casual, authentic style of communication.

Dr. Shaw makes you feel very comfortable and the teleheath availability is great. No stressing about traffic or leaving home, which is great for someone with agoraphobia. All the focus of the appointment is to discuss the problem, not recovering from being stressed from traffic or being in a waiting room
